Epic 4G:

Super AMOLED screen is very vibrant (no pun) the blacks are true black. The GPU is the best on the market right now. The processor is currently the fastest. Both even besting the iPhone 4. The keyboard doesn't add much bulk to the phone as the screen is ultra thin. Fonts on the screen will not look as smooth as the iPhone4's retina display. Pixel density can be changed with a simple app on the Market though. The battery life is adequate, and I find myself charging once every day and a half. The iPhone's battery is far better. There is a bit of lag associated with the file system that Samsung chose to use on this phone. It will be fixed in the Android 2.2 update.TouchWiz is Samsung's overlay for Android. It very closely resembles the iPhone app launcher. The music player sounds far better than my Hero when plugged to my car stereo.

Bigger screen using Samsung's AMOLED technology. It's not nearly as advanced as the Super AMOLED, but its adequate. HTC has huge issues designing proper GPUs for these phones. None the less this one does have fast drivers, but is limited to 30 frames per second. It's hard to notice except on action movies and high speed game play. It's using a terrific and fast file system that is much more stable than Samsung's Galaxy Series. You'll get much less hiccups with the EVO. The battery life is actually quite good on this phone enabling you a full 24 hours without a charge under moderate use. The kickstand really comes in handy.

Well HTC Sense is a very nice UI. It's much more attractive than Samsung's TouchWiz. The widgets are very intuitive and useful, and the social network integration cannot be beat. Samsung's TouchWiz has a few nice features as well, but I removed it if that tells you anything. As I said it does very closely resemble the iPhone launcher.

If I were buying again, I would choose the EVO. Though the Epic is a great phone, and very solid in it's stock form, Samsung has a little way to go to harness the full Android experience. Namely changing their file system to a faster more stable version. Random wipes and resets are not cool. I like my Vibrant, but probably will go back to HTC in the near future.

I agree, though it's not because of the battery, or Android, but rather that stupid RFS file system that Samsung decided to use. It's so slow and unorganized. Once the kernel is corrected, the processor will be able to access files much easier and quicker. Thus improving battery life drastically.

Battery life under heavy use is definitely not as good as I'd like it to be. Moderate/normal use, it'll make it 12 hours. Heavy use MAYBE 7-9.

Simply put, the hardware on the EPIC is newer technology, has superior specs than the EVO.

BUT, personally, I still don't trust Samsung's customer support. Especially to provide timely updates.

Swype will work just like the Epic. With Android, you can just choose a default keyboard that will work for everything. I'm not sure what they mean about the combined txt, email, and MMS. The Epic doesn't have that either.

I'm no photographer, but I though my Hero camera was crisper and more vibrant with colors. You could see artifacts though which was a major flaw. My co-worker's EVO takes pictures the same way. The Galaxy S has been getting rave reviews about it's camera. Seems a little fuzzy to me, but I suppose that's what makes a better camera?

The option is still there, since Samsung is badass. By default, it's disabled. All you have to do is check "Use Wireless Networks" and bam, it's on.

Actually I've said many times that the functionality is more and more the same with any mobile OS right now. The only anomaly would be WP7, since not many people know or understand what it will entail. My personal favorite hardware manufacturers are a toss up between HTC and Apple, as both have brought quality to the table. Apple has a slight nudge ahead for it's amazing battery life, but gets pushed back a bit by it's mediocre processor. The iPhone's iOS's graphics performance is topnotch as Android is still fighting with the smooth scroll feature that Apple has mastered. Android is still catching up, but it's progress is moving very quickly and is shaking the grounds in Cupertino, causing them to make many mistakes. I've very interested to see what Microsoft is going to bring to the table.

Actually I've said many times that the functionality is more and more the same with any mobile OS right now. The only anomaly would be WP7, since not many people know or understand what it will entail. My personal favorite hardware manufacturers are a toss up between HTC and Apple, as both have brought quality to the table. Apple has a slight nudge ahead for it's amazing battery life, but gets pushed back a bit by it's mediocre processor. The iPhone's iOS's graphics performance is topnotch as Android is still fighting with the smooth scroll feature that Apple has mastered. Android is still catching up, but it's progress is moving very quickly and is shaking the grounds in Cupertino, causing them to make many mistakes. I've very interested to see what Microsoft is going to bring to the table.

Just bought the Epic...can't activate till 10/1 but hopefully I'll have it before hand to play with. Gonna root...any suggestions?

I've never worked with Android, but didn't have any issues hacking my Treo and jb'ing my touch..

spend the extra 20 bro, the hero is an older phone and is a bit on the slow side now. the epic is awesome, except for battery life, but even then i would recommend it.

Not that bad after it gets on a regular charge schedule (phone off while charge).
