My Sentras transmission is about to die and I'm going to need a reliable FWD daily soon. I travel daily from Orlando to Tampa so I'd like decent MPG and something reliable.
Was thinking of an Accord but you really don't get much bang for your buck when you buy them used so I'm thinking maybe a Focus or Colbalt of some sort?? You can get one with half the miles of a Honda for the same price and seem to be just as reliable.
I have a Liberty I use when I want to play in the mud so I don't really need anything SUVish.
Also no German cars please hence the 'reliable' portion of my post.
Thanks fellas

I have a Focus and I love it. Sure, they're your standard econobox, but I get 36mpg highway, it rides smoothly, the motor is powerful enough, it requires very little maintenance, and it is pretty roomy for its size.
A year and a half ago, I bought an 07 with 42k miles for $7,650 out the door. So well within your range.

i've driven during a bad storm here and been spun out on the highway from high winds so I'm looking for something with a little more traction.
they also get a few better mpg

Yeah, there's something about quality that detests me, too.

This part just baffles me. Aside from Audi/VW's modern models up to the 90's, (which was hardly a third of the German import market) I don't see how you support this argument.
The batting average of other nations and unions is far under that threshold.

You must also be a pretty shitty driver in poor weather to spin out in a Sentra due to wind - I've managed to keep the E-150 pointed the right direction in some pretty severe storms, and I've got more wind resistance than an America's Cup yacht.

My Maxima got blown all over the place in Kansas. No spin out though.

why would it baffle you? people hear something and then spread it around as gospel regardless of actual facts all the time.

My Audi is pretty damn reliable too. I don't drive it much, but I haven't had to do much maintenance on it either.

Lotta truth right there.
