there was the one time it snowed and the signal got fuxxord for a sec, i went and got the snow off the dish and the signal was clear again.

atoz350
10-11-2010, 01:24 PM
The signal went down a few points. It doesn't affect the picture. The boxes are programmed to check signal strength past a certain threshold. If it doesn't meet the threshold at the time of install it fails the installation. I wrote the program.

Derrick824
10-11-2010, 02:11 PM
Did you even watch the show? The part where the ceo and Tequilla installed the dish then went inside as it started raining. They said on the show that signal dropped to 50% cause of the rain. And if that was a shitty install then DTV fails even worse for actually putting a shitty install on national tv. I can't believe they even showed the part about signal going out cause of the rain. lol

Just admit your company = failure.

Okay, I'll admit. DirecTV stock only went up everyday I've been here, while the cable companies have been dropping. Yeah we suck. And the signal didn't drop 50%. They dropped 3 decibels, which equals half power. Mind you we broadcast at 100 decibels anyway. And Tequilla is an excellent tech.

Hahahahaha, it didn't drop 50% it only dropped HALF power. lol. Half = 50%.

You've been blaming crappy signal on the tech's installs this entire time. So was it the tech's shitty install that dropped the signal or was it the rain. Either way DTV fails.

Rain dropped it, but this is way too much for you to understand. Why do you have such a grudge? Did they deny your credit?

So you wrote a program to fail an install for something that doesn't affect anything? That sounds like more fail.

No I wrote a program that makes sure techs don't bullshit the install. There is a minimum requirement that you must meet in order not to have your signal go out every time it rains. It's different for every market too. Read up.

Uhh no you're wrong. I said THEY couldn't activate it. They had to call and wait on hold for 20 minutes to get a waiver to get it activated. That's after the rain fucked up the signal causing it to fail the test even though you claim rain doesn't fuck up the signal.

You simply didn't know it. Neither of the previous apply here. If you didn't pay up front, they broke it up into payments over the term of your contract. That's what your "Misc. Charges" are for.

They are better at receiving signal over a broader span. The shape of the ODU (dish) has to do with what satellites it is receiving signal from. Not the strength of the signal.

Different frequency bands.

Those big dishes are for C-band, which is about half the frequency of the Ku/Ka band dishes that DirecTV is using. Lower frequency, bigger dish needed for the same gain.

The downside is that higher frequencies are much more prone to attenuation by trees, water vapor, etc. But people don't like big dishes, so that's what they get to live with.

It's 100 dBm. Not enough to cook yet like Wildblue TRIAs but powerful enough to get through most storms.
