My plans are a mild lift, 33's or 35's, D44's front and rear hopefully. Build up the I6 into a stroker. Put in a newer 5 speed. Replace the top and front seats and fix the driverside tub and tailgate.
Your best bet on axles is a non-disconnect 30 from an XJ. This 30 is good for tire size up to around 37" or so if your a dumb ass with it. They are plentiful. As such, parts are east and interchangeable between most late middle 30s. Including TJ, ZJ, XJ etc. The nice thing if you find an XJ is it'll be high pinion. Running on the drive side of the gears helps a lot with strength.
On the rear, best bang for buck is gonna be a Ford 8.8. Best donor is a 97+ exploder. Those are 31 spline 1.31 shaft and already have disc brakes.
Nice thing is both axles came from factory in their original cars with both 3.73 and 4.10 ratios. If you can get the sane ratio you'll save some bux having to regear.
4.10s are decent with 33s. Going 35" you'll prolly want 4.56-4.88.
On the motor, look for fuel injection. Molar makes a kit but it's pricey. 2k$ ish
Best bet is go find a wrecked 91+ because it'll be injected. Or sone other late model. Use the motor and computer out of it and sell your carbed 6 cyl to someone with a four. Part out the rest of the donor rig. If you play your cards right, you can actually do the swap and cone out ahead.

Why would you want to "cut them down"? If you wheel it and need spares, you're going to have to custom make spares as well. Dumb.
An 8.8 swap from an Explorer is a direct swap. Even the spring perches match to within 1/2"... WMS is 59" as well. About the only "work" is to get the DS yoke adapted to the pinion yoke.
Oh and between the 33"-35" tires... There's always this imaginary line between good cheap mods and $$$ mods.. It will vary per Jeep setup, but when you jump to 35's is generally where it tends to occur.
The lift that you're going to need to clear 35's is going to put you into driveline vibes. There are a couple of ways around this (MML, tcase drop, hack and tap), but the "right" way is a true SYE.

I just want 33x12.50's, and I like technical trails but I'm planning on experimenting with propane injection in alternative fuels or using an injection kit. I plan on building up a 4.6 turbo to play with, which will get injected. For the 44's, can't I just use Rubi axles and have perches made? I have access to a machine shop. I'd rather not use a Ford axle in my Jeep. To build a Ford 8.8 to my liking, it will cost more than I want to spend. I've got one sitting for my Ranger that still needs to be finished since I can't afford the R&P and LSD. Plus if I can get a Rubi to work, I'd also have air lockers.

i went with a webber and an elect. fuel pump off the tank - i like the simplicity of a carb, but fi is a definite bonus when you get into technical, off camber rock crawling

4.10s would be ok with 33s - not ideal, but will manage
on the d30 front - look into swapping the vacuum actuator for a cable - wont make the 3 piece axle any stronger, but the line cant get pulled of and disconnect the axle
Dave's right.... The Rubi stuff will be stupid expensive. Just about anything you find setup for TJ coils is way $$$.

If you're going to do it a bit at a time, don't spend a dime on that 35. You can't polish that turd any. Wheel it till it breaks and carry a spare (and hope it only breaks the shaft).

Dave's right.... The Rubi stuff will be stupid expensive. Just about anything you find setup for TJ coils is way $$$.

have an 89 and its not getting power to the fuel pump in the tank - i guess its a common problem with the dual pump setups (86 - 89)
was wondering if you have had any issues with yours...

Check out Fullsizebronco.com. I've got a carb with a mechanical pump stock. I'd chase wires and check fuses.
