Just heard about these today on CA, anyone ever use one before? Not sure what is involved though I would imagine setting up a satellite in the yard would be one thing I am guessing the directtv guy might do it for $50-100 bucks if I offer it to him.
This is the only receiver I have even looked at so far going to try and find some fta forums and get the full scoop. Right now I have basic cable for $10 with 15 channels and 3 of them spanish and 4 of the home shopping club shit so even if it was just a few extra channels it would be nice.

I have a couple of them. I would hold off buying one right now as everything is switching over to N3 coding, and the decoders haven't broke it yet. We've already lost Bell tv here in Canada, and Dish is owned by the same company and will be switching over to N3 soon. We haven't had bell for a coupkle months now. This N3 coding is pretty difficult to break so far. You might be alright if you bought an Nfusion reciever. They are the cats ass as far as receivers go. They automatically download the new keys for you by internet connection, and rarely goes down. And apparently are still working through a back door loop. It gives you most of the channels through this back door, but no pay per view or porn. Don't know how long that will last either though. Besides Nfusion, I am running a coolsat 7000. nice and user friendly once they are up and running. Only need a usb jump drive to get back up and running when the zap the signal.

The widespread popularity of FTA receivers is due in part to their use of the same technology employed by Echostar's Dish Network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dish_Network) and BCE's Bell TV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_TV). Often, hackers are able to reverse-engineer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse-engineer) the software and add the necessary coding to allow unauthorized reception of all channels offered by Dish Network, including premium movies and pay-per-view (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay-per-view).
