As some of you may know, I'm building an in-floor subwoofer for my neighbors new house.
Today I finally got to get the thing over there and installed, though it's not hooked up yet. But I did manage to get a vid of the drive to the house to show you guys how extravagant this place is.

Now you know why a 4th order was my only option. :)
After I got the sound dampening in there:

Still need to put screws into the box so it doesn't move, plus another brace.
And since I was there, I snuck in a couple more pics.

Next week it'll get hooked up and tested. :)

Fi SSD.
Box is tuned to...uh....lol.
Probably around 30ish? I'm gonna test it out once we get it wired up. If I don't like how it performs I'm gonna rebuild it. Hard to say what its tuned to for sure. I tested it in my bedroom and it seems to peak pretty low.

Gonna be powered by a crown amp, so I'm sure there's some adjustments on it. :)

Plus when they go on trips me and my new neighbor (my old neighbors son) get to party there. :)
I'll try and get some pics of the upstairs next time.

While that looks nice, I would still just go IB for that application. Every home I own will have an attic IB from now like this home.
I bet that shit is gonna be loud though.
EDIT: Just noticed that feeds into another room, so I guess IB will not work in the floor.

No offense meant.

I'm on the fence as well. I tested it a bit in my room and it plays low, but frequency response seemed a little narrow. But I wanted to test it in the room its going to be in just to be safe.
If it doesn't perform how I want it to then I'll rebuild. No biggie. As stated, they aren't audiophiles and will probably be happy with anything. They were more happy that I was involved with the house more than anything else.
If I do rebuild I have a ported idea in mind that might work better, its just gonna take some work.

Damn... that's baller. Attic-mounted infinite baffle eh? How does that really sound? I toyed with the idea of trying it out, but I live in an OLD house that has doors between every bedroom, so it's much easier to just block one of those off and use it as the mounting point... no drywall work ftw.

Attic IB is damn good. A little bit of work and a whole lot of drivers, but in the end it is worth it. Great extension.

Truth be told, she inherited a bunch of money.
On a side note, haven't had time to finish the install yet. Probably going to be a while with the holidays coming up.

Here's a little article about the house, along with a few pics.
I'm gonna try to snap some the next time I'm over there.

In the 2nd picture you can see a little passageway to the right of the fireplace, that's where the TV is and where my in-floor sub is.

So if you don't mind me asking, after you saw the house did you charge them accordingly?

I've actually known the owners for about 20 years.
They were my neighbors before they built this house.
I actually didn't give them a price, my new neighbor (the owner's son) actually came up with a price which I was more than happy with. :)

Slight update on this. My neighbor finally ordered the amp we needed.
So I'm over there helping them hook it up, and when it came to wiring the positive and negative on the amp (2 channel bridged) I mentioned that it didn't matter that the positive speaker lead was on the positive terminal.
At which point his buddy (who claims he's been doing this for 10+ years) says it does matter because you'll lose "all low end output" and the "sub will cancel out". I mentioned to him that it does NOT matter because amplifiers put out AC and in low frequencies it's hard to decipher an out of phase sub.
He retorts by telling me that amps put out DC. :fp:
So I then ask him why a speaker only moves one way when you hook it up to a battery (pop test), he then tells me that the amplifier modulates the DC signal so the speaker moves back and forth.
At that point I just kept my mouth shut because I knew no matter what I told him that he would never be convinced.
All I said at the end was that we'll test it one way and then flip it so the positive speaker wire is on the positive channel if he "hears it out of phase" and walked away.
I hate it when people act like they know what they are talking about because they are older.

ask him what DC sounds like

Well, his DC sounds like AC apparently because the amplifier "modulates" the DC current so it alternates back and forth.
Funny, I would call that ALTERNATING CURRENT.

werd, if it changes direction in time, it is no longer DC

Wired in and working. Sounds pretty darn good for the space I had to work with.
Suffers a little bit on the high-end, as I was expecting with the design, but should perform really well with movies.
I'll try and get a vid some day along with pics of the rest of the house.
