fanninator

So I applied at a place called R&D Industries. They repair river boats if they get holes and such in them. If i get the job, I will start as a laborer then I can try to move over to the weld shop, which is actually what I plan to do (weld) so I just wanted to share my excitment! :boobies:

Excellent!!

Have you had the interview? If not and need some help, I've got lots of pointers. I've done lots of interviewing.

What type of welding do you do? We always are looking for good welders at my work. When things pick up, hell what am I saying...what state do you even live in? LOL

Pussy.

Production is FTL in my opinion. I would go insane if I had to do the same thing all fucking day.

Yea it got shitty after awhile. We welded fast as fuck too. Wire speed on full heat at 29. One welder two fitters, thousands of parts a day.

Get them to pay for your degree if it really interest you. You'll never be out of work, and never be hurting for money. And you'll be amazed how much shit you'll learn and say, "wow, I can't imagine doing this shit WITHOUT a degree."

It's scary that people do it without any knowledge. Remember that next time you drive over a bridge ;)

I spent a while learning at the 597 school in chicago and then also when it moved to mokena. welding is just not for me. I got good at it I could run 2 inch 160 pipe with 1/8 inch 7018 for fill and cover when most people just went with 3-32

Because water + electricity =

Are we following yet?

Also, 1 amp is enough to kill a human. I've welded using 450A of current, but normally i'm in the range of 80 - 140A. Now put me in water with that much amperage.

hmm its been a while but is that pipe code? I thought you where an ironworker? maybe it was on the shc80. I need to go to the garage and look now.

Mainly structural, but I have been working on my cert for pipe, and we're to use 1/8" on the root and fill. 3/32" is much easier, I know, but they won't go for it. It may just be for testing, but I believe that's the code. 1/8" only, 6010 root and 6010 or 7018 fill.

Bender
04-17-2009, 10:43 PM
this seems like a more solid argument than electrical shock

There are also risks of explosions from combinations of oxygen and hydrogen pockets being ignited. Another serious danger is from nitrogen accumulating in the welders' bloodstream from the high pressure.

not everything ALWAYS happens the way it is SOPPOSED to happen. honestly nothing would ever get done. its like getting a cut on your arm and not realizing how many times a day you hit it. you wear water weights, but there is always movement from current and repossessioning for comfort. im sure it would be an easy thing to do if your under up to 12 hrs a day like her dad is.

oh ok. any pics of your work to see if its respectable? do you sell it at shows of what? can you make a bear out of a log with a chainsaw?

No I don't have any pics online of my work, however I am working on a new portfolio, so I should have one soon. Yes, I sell work at shows, and no I don't work with chainsaws, but I could definitely carve a bear out of a log with wood working tools.

Excellent!!

Have you had the interview? If not and need some help, I've got lots of pointers. I've done lots of interviewing.

What type of welding do you do? We always are looking for good welders at my work. When things pick up, hell what am I saying...what state do you even live in? LOL

Point away. I'm always down to better myself.

In fact, make a thread about it in CU :fyi:

Ahhh didn't see this.

Are you going to an interview? I can't just ask interview questions, I have to know what kind of job. There are always the generic questions, but anyone can answer those.

Key to generic questions (even if they don't ask for it) is to answer the question, give a life example and try to apply it to the job you are applying for. This way they know you understand, have in some way done something with that, and more importantly you understand the job they are considering you for. See, people interviewing are usually lazy bosses which means the more you already know the less they are going to have to do.

I've had people BOMB bad on simple questions "How do you handle multi-tasking" and they don't know what that means. Really? No? If an interviewer has to lead you into the answer, your fucked.

Also, research the hell out of the place you are applying for and if they start going into information you already know, let them. Some people like to talk and want to feel intelligent, last thing they need is someone trying to show them up AND ask for a job. Reason why you research is so when they naturally progress to more lingo talk (only in some fields) you can follow along without having to ask for definitions. Sometimes they will catch on and either just say "looks like you did your homework" or just ask if you have background in the field. Another good time for you to show them how you are a better selection than anyone else. If you know nothing, you can say, "I'm really interested in this position and it seems very exciting, I did some reading on it and I think "blah" about "blah"". Especially right now, there are so many great candidates that it is really important that you can stand out.

One of my good friends is an exec for Kraft foods, and he actually built into the overall hiring process a percentage for those who would wash out. He is overstaffed and having to let people go because the people coming in are working so hard to keep a job that the percentage no longer works.

Wow, i just really went to town on generic huh?

I went through 500+ resumes last month. There were some real winners but this one took the case.

Under skills she wrote: "I don't know what else to put here" and then right below that she wrote "I need A GODLY MAN".

And they were in bigger font than everything else.

I lolled my ass off. She obviously meant to come back and remove that but forgot.

So motherfucking this. Knowing everything you can find about the organization shows that you are interested and motivated. Sometimes this is better than actual qualifications.

ha ha ha! Nice....weirdest for me was face to face and me asking his hobbies and he said he was a ghosthunter. I mean, wow.

*nod* Most companies have taken standard software and changed it so much that you knowing how to do it doesn't help them for shit. They want smart, motivated, and willing to make time outside of your standard works hours to go that extra mile. If you're saying to yourself "i'm not working unless I'm getting paid" right now.

Just say these words, and get used to them "Welcome to Wal-mart"

spider..if you dont mind, can i ask where you work? if its like a titty bar then she might work out really well but anything to do with public might be funny enough to bring her in even though she sucks at life. im sure she would be good for a couple laughs.

Sure, feel free to ask me where I work. I did not bring here in. Out of 500+ resumes, I responded to 7 poeple, 3 people accepted an in-person interview, and only 2 showed. I hired 1 of them. She starts next week.

Some people are soooo ubber lazy that they will go and do the process of trying for a job just so they can tell big brother they are looking and continue to easy life known as unemployment.
