dont tap it yet. try to helicoil it. go to your local napa store or a harware store should have them they work better than tapping the threads and keep the same size of bolt.

we use them on heavy machines all the time

Why would you think you'd get a faster result here... than on a car audio forum?

your best bet would be a helicoil like previously stated

enough threads are left that tapping and a new set screw may just work fine, if not well everyone else said how to fix it. you could just skip helicoil get one size bigger and drill then tap. if you do both it will not look ghetto
