WESTERN DIGITAL HAS launched a 2TB enterprise HD. If you think that's big, it has a 64M cache to back it all up too.
The drive, RE4-GP, has what WD claims is "next generation" green technology, saving up to 40 per cent more power than normal drives. The cache is claimed to be good for a 25 per cent increase in performance as well, so this appears to be a win/win before you even consider the massive size.
The drives, available now, are going to retail for $329, or just under 17 cents a GB. For reference, this is slightly below the $10/MB I paid for my first HD. You can read more about it here. µ

Well from what I understand a bluray of decent quality to copy off a disk is something like 30GB so even with running a few 1TB drives you are still limited on space.

I am actually downloading The Black Knight which says it is a bluray rip to see if I can stream it on my PS3 over my wireless network though I would imagine that will be the biggest issue for most of us doing it this way though I am not sure if the newer 'a' or 'n' protocols work better mind is old school 'g' and gets choppy sometimes when streaming a 700mb DVD rip.

It is a never ending cycle, but this is good news :) . Large amounts of storage = large amounts of pron.

6x 2 TB drives in a RAID5 will hold quite a bit of titles even at 30GB(233 titles) which I believe there is a lower level of acceptable compression than that. Then if that isn't enough then cluster a few file servers. Of course it's gonna get expensive but that wasn't part of the problem proposed :)

If you want an untouched copy of the full disc, then yeah it will be in the 25-35GB range ATM...
