Nod, completely understandable, just didn't want to make a recommendation before figuring out what you were doing and if you only had that to spend.

in that price, it seems like (just going off of specs) that brand is going to win. I checked on ebay and found basically only pyramid and checked on partsexpress.com and found the same speakers. They did have a better model (B2030P) for 109.

That was about it.

Thanks Bro! Might go with them gonna search ebay first then see what I come up with. If I do jump on these will give a review. What ever I get will have to do till I get some M-audios done the road.

Thoughts?

Seem to go lower than the other sets, larger speaker most likely helps.

no doubt..... I'd say take the two models you have and do a search with vs. between and also just go check some review sights.

Gotta admit, the specs are a bit better than I expected in the price range....should do a decent job with either model.

Event TR series were my choice after listening to all of the available options a few years back. The Event speakers just sound natural and transparent, I loved my TR5s.

also a fan of the Roland Edirol line of home studio products. I just picked up a midi controller keyboard by Edirol and was impressed with the overall quality. I have used roland products for years and thought edirol was their generic stuff, turns out it is just a line of products intended for home users. These edirol monitors have similar specs to my old TR5 events.

I likes mine they sound great. I do like roland i likes the boss drum machines the best. I have a roland sp-606 sampler i find it hard to use. I want to try out an MPC.

I made my first multi-track recordings on a roland sp-808 sampler. Also probably the one piece of gear I regret selling most. It came with a book about an inch thick. The nice thing about roland stuff is their other products will seem familiar to you if you learn one well.

all of my stuff is PC based these days.

I hate to hi jack (didn't want to make another thread about it), but what are some good/okay speakers that have a decent low end in the 200-250 range?

I have these now:

lately I have just been programming drum sequences making tracks for my bro and I to practice guitars to. We are into heavy shit. I guess industrial speed metal would be one way to think of it. I got out of music for a couple years when I got my own house. I sold off all my gear and it was painful to even pick a guitar up without all my stuff to plug into. Just now getting back into it and seeing which direction I want to take.

Years ago I had a little project going with some guys and I was doing all the synthesis and that was more of a progressive rock sort of sound.

Don't shop for monitors like you would for regular speakers. what I mean is don't be put off by 4 and 5 inch woofers until you hear what they can do. Event TR5s, the edirols posted above for 170 would all be good choices for close field monitoring- such as the monitors will be on your desk. You won't use 1/3 of the power available out of them, I guarantee it. You can also jump up in pricing to the KRK 6 which are 6" and 100 watts but they are 200 each speaker. I think that is about what I paid for my events, I recall them being 300 something shipped a few years ago.

When I am sequencing beats I use a similar set of PC speakers, some logitech kit with a powered sub. I like that for drums because the sub makes a nice reproduction of the toms and kicks. If I want to listen to something critically though I send signal to my home stereo which has some small denon and polk audio drivers.

True. I do want something that would be able to accommodate a party, though. I used my logitechs at the last one and could smell the coils the entire night. Almost had it maxed out on volume and it wasn't quite loud enough.

I used those events as my sole speakers for a long time, but at that time I was set up in a big master bedroom as a listening space. My favorite system for just everyday listening is in my living room, just a sony receiver with some decent speakers I traded for hooked up.

When I first started recording my PC was connected to that stereo and I used that as a monitor system for a long long time with good results. Doing the same thing now. My thoughts are that I am just a hobbyist musician and if I need to mix and monitor something critically I will do it at a big studio when the time comes and use their pro audio gear. I'm just in it for fun these days. I also don't have a "producers ear" and the difference between the monitors and the stereo system or the logitech speakers is not great enough where I feel I have to get another set of monitors. You can always go back and tweak the tracks later too, which is why I stick to PC based recording.

Tannoys for powered monitors.

B&W if you have external amplification.
