Don't lease a car...

This. It's a waste of money and car equity. Buying new is also stupid as the second it's off the lot its worth half what you're paying for. Buy used, shop around find a good deal and haggle on price. Also do research, see about getting a loan through your bank before going to a dealer. Your bank will likely give you a better rate than the dealer.

LOL @ more general advice that does not apply to everyone.

He has bad credit and everyone knows it. Good luck at a bank taking a chance on him before the dealership financiers.

Cars are not investment and equity is a crock to worry about. If you trade in on regular 3-4 year intervals it all washes out for the most part.

For most people, I could see leasing as a bad option, but not for all.

Doesn't matter. The lease and buy amounts are not structured the same as an outright loan to buy, which has higher payments from the start by contract. You are throwing money away somewhere in the deal if you lease to own. If you plan to make higher payments, then buying is the best option. The point of leases is lower monthly payments for people that change cars like underwear, or to fleet out companies. If you plan to buy upfront then they are all right, you are being retarded.

Here's the deal, looking for a car with your chitty credit is going to be hard regardless.

You are going to have better luck if you let the dealer try and finance you. They have 10-20 lenders they deal with daily. Many of them deal with poor credit situations all the time.

Try and find yourself a certified pre-owned... Usually they are 24-ish months old with low miles. Factory extended warranty is part of the deal. Generally 5/100,000.

Shop online for dealer websites... Compare those prices to edmunds and auto trader. However don't expect a dealer to be the same price as a private sale. It will be slightly higher.

When it comes down to it... You absolutely do NOT talk payments with the sales guy (or anyone)... Payments are irrelevant. You talk price... You talk price/value... If the sales guy gives a damn about payments -> i.e. "I can get you in this car for $$/mo", then he's a scumbag. This tactic skews your perspective and is designed to get you to forget about the actual price.

Payments are simply math based upon the agreed price / interest rate / # of months. If when you get to the finance guy, the payments are too high, you cannot afford the car. You do not work the payments until you get the car you want

Too many posts, so I'm just going to reply to this one.

Leasing has its purposes. If you want a new car every few years and don't mod your vehicle or do any damage, its a great idea. We will lease our next SUV because we bought our truck with 35k about 2.6 years ago and it now has 50k miles. So for us, we can get a VERY nice vehicle for cheap and not worry about service and all that stuff.

I have to say I disagree with not buying new. The truth is that you do lose value once you leave the dealer but you also have a warranty. So my thinking is like so (this isn't science, just my thoughts)

Leave the dealership with a new ride and a 5-year warranty. Car cost 20k and is now worth 19k. However, you are covered until 2016. This means anything that goes wrong will be covered (unless you do something totally stupid)

Leave the dealership with a used car and lets pretend you got a good deal and the car goes for 10k and is worth 11k. 40-days later the tranny dies (i pick 40 because under 30 you basically can just take it back) and now you are out 3k.

Comes down to risk. I don't do well with risk.

It would depend on how old of a used car he gets. 1 or two years old would still give him some warranty left and be cheaper for the same or similar car. And he could always add an extended. Slightly used seems like a better way to get a better car for a cheaper price vs brand new. Unless there are some good incentives going on with a new car.

I would look into buying a lease return. Buying cars that are about 24 months old with 30k on the clock is what bosses do.

We got a 2007 Grand Cherokee for my sister with the 4.7 and 27k miles, leather, sunroof, heated seats, etc.. for about 20k in december of 2009.

There is only one reason he should not lease a car. He can't afford to do it properly.

LOL Bro, leasing is actually the wisest financial option when purchasing new. Do you also loan the government 4 thousand dollars each year and ask for it back at tax time?
BTW, these bitches be trolling. Leasing can be good depending on situations. It is not a poor people option either because poor people have lower credit usually and they are more strict credit-wise on leases.

http://www.leaseguide.com/lease05.htm
This bro knows. Kinda. Leasing is the smartest method if you can afford to give the down-payment at the end of the lease. Course, we know JoT can't do that, so leasing is not a wise option for him.

Leasing has no different effect on car equity than buying new ya retard.

And do loans through credit unions, not banks.

Still get it checked at an independent mechanic you trust. We bought a Windstar that had 50k miles and was one of the local GM dealers "Optimum Used" vehicles. Turns out it had a broken motor mount, had been in an accident and we were never made aware.

If you only drive a little I'd say go with the lease providing your not a dumbass (nor is your old lady) that bumps into shit all the time because you pay out the ass when you return it if you do.

Been in one wreck & it wasn't even in my car crew checking in.

You make me wanna fuck you so bad bro. Good info ITP. Thank you.

Werd. Thanks to you too bro. I will NOT lease if I can't modify. :crap:

I would look into buying a lease return. Buying cars that are about 24 months old with 30k on the clock is what bosses do.

We got a 2007 Grand Cherokee for my sister with the 4.7 and 27k miles, leather, sunroof, heated seats, etc.. for about 20k in december of 2009.

Good lookin' out mackin.

Buy slightly used. Anyone that buys a brand new car off the lot is a fucking retard.

There is only one reason he should not lease a car. He can't afford to do it properly.

LOL Bro, leasing is actually the wisest financial option when purchasing new. Do you also loan the government 4 thousand dollars each year and ask for it back at tax time?

This bro knows. Kinda. Leasing is the smartest method if you can afford to give the down-payment at the end of the lease. Course, we know JoT can't do that, so leasing is not a wise option for him.

Leasing has no different effect on car equity than buying new ya retard.

And do loans through credit unions, not banks.

Stop giving advice related to lots of pennies. NOW.

See, this would be my advice now that I have read this thread.

Or buy my Jeep which is perfect for a growing family, for 10K. You can't have the license plate though. ;)

I WANNA BE SHMOBIN!

Just do what Atoz does with crappy credit and find a girl that has good credit. You can ride her good credit forever. Credit is for suckers.

Bro with bad credit but has bitch with good credit crew checking in.

Jeeps are awesome until I no longer have one bro. That's how this world works. You're just mad because a Jeep once owned you.

Reputable post.

Go Certified pre-owned!

I doubt I will EVER buy a new vehicle in my life. I'll more than likely look at CPO vehicles that are ~2years old, substantially less, and still offer warranty!

You may not like me.. but you give me great advice bro. Thank you!

Oh man, I been wanting one o'deez!

So was I.. until my dreams were crushed.

no current production piece of shit spacecraft wanna-be vehicle is going to withstand the test of time long enough to hand down to your kid. There is only one choice for you, and that is the BMW e30.

lol @ leasing.

Typical poor person financial strategy.

Why? I've not put 30k miles on my car since I've had it..

Don't.

Dude, I AM poor. It's a well known fact, what is so wrong w/leasing?

There is nothing, in unto itself, wrong with leasing. There are several reasons whereby leasing is more attractive than buying new.

However, I would suggest you buy something not brand new.

Again wrong....

When looking at Ford Rangers the price of a brand new one was only $1,000 more than 2 year old one.

Secondly, it's not worth 1/2...I am not sure where people invent such nonsense.

^^^ Or drop $46k and walk out with your yellow papers to apply for the vehicles first certificate of title.

I have bought a brand new car off the lot with a cashier's check and they will get the title for you.

i just went through all this bs. once i gave up on new/leasing, i still wanted something as new as possible. by the end of it all i bought an 07 grand prix gt with the 3800 supercharged with 35k miles, fully loaded. they wanted 17k certified and knocking them down 2k was easy. with 2 big payments and a refinance to birng my int. from 9% to 4%, i'll be paying 250 a month. the 3800 is used in a lot of gm cars and one of there best drivetrains. should hit 130k before any trans repairs.
