This is a 14.7mp but to be honest i would rather have a lower resolution CCD in exchange for less noise at higher ISO settings.

i'd get an slr but i need something more portable
Is it an SLR type camera? If not, then it isnt a camera... It is merely an image capturing device.
Buy a cheapo point and shoot if you want portability, if you want to take pics get a DSLR, they are cheap enough nowadays, you can probably pick up a used D40 for the super cheaps.

No, i take my P&S everywhere with me. I want good images no matter where i am. Has a 5x zoom and 28mm lens, captures raw, etc. Not a bad gig. D40 is a pos anyway. Fo sho. I know its not a D3 or anything, but for a P&S this will be fine.
D40 is a POS? Thats news to me, mine takes better pics than any point and shoot on the market...

In the world of DSLR's i would say so. I'm sure there are pro level SLR's that take better pictures than your D40. But thats not the point is it? I'm not looking for an SLR so its irrelevant.
Well yes, in the world of DSLR's it is the most entry level platform. But I hardly think that qualifies it to be a POS. I still happen to think that a bottom of the line SLR is going to be better than a point and shoot, but then again I like having the control and being able to take the picture I want rather than the picture that the camera thinks I am trying to take.

Cool, definitely show us pics you take with it :D
I have a D40 myself... I bought it from my brother for pretty cheap a year ago, and the pictures are awesome that come from it.
1 question I don't get... Why do you need 14.7 megapixels? Was that a selling point for you? Do you make big posters and stuff? Curious

It really wasn't a selling point at all to be quite honest. There are perks to a really high resolution shot, but not many that are of any consequence to me. I would prefer to be able to take better night shots or use higher ISO settings with little noise, but that is one of the trade offs you make with a Point and Shoot vs an SLR.

Larger resolutions are better for editing and cropping as well, and they print in smaller format with a higher DPI resolution.

D40 is a nice camera indeed. Honestly, with today's technology most of the camera's in the mid level and up are going to be really kick ass. I doubt I'll ever switch from Canon though.
Can't wait to see some shots through the G10!
