The first 2 days are the worst ... but if you can make it through them, just focus on how much they SUCKED when you have a craving. Ask yourself if you want to go through that withdrawal again.

Good luck. Be strong. Remember .. You don't want to be like RB, do you?

Don't fail.

My brother is getting married in Cincinnati in 3 days and I still have to figure out how in the hell I'm getting there. Also, I'm supposed to shoot his wedding as his "gift". This may not turn out well...

Yeah, you will gain weight. Everything tastes so much better after you quit that you'll want to eat everything. Trust me, I put on about 30 lbs in the first year.

The first week is the hardest part. After a couple days, you'll start smelling and breathing a bit better, and after about a week, you'll notice the taste changes. After about 2 weeks, you'll REALLY notice the smell and taste differences.

In all serious, go and buy a large bag of mixed nuts. Any time you have a craving, grab a handful of them and munch. Cravings will only last on average about 3 minutes. So if you can last through the 3 minutes, you'll be fine. The saltiness of the nuts will help with curbing the craving as well.

Still on the zero-nicotine plan, bro?

no, i fucked up again. However, instead of smoking like the usual 7 cigs a day, ive kept it to 3-5 and I'm just gonna try and keep dropping it down until the nicotine levels lower down. I think that seems easier to me. And when ive hit 1-2 a day, I'm quit cold turkey and it won't be so hellish.

It seems that way at first but you'll find you're really just dragging it out and making yourself a miserable bitch for much longer.

Here's a method that worked for me: rather than counting the number of cigarettes, keep track of when you have your first. If you usually have one when you get up, push that back a couple of hours. I started by not smoking until my first coffee break at work .. around 10am or so. The next week, I pushed that back to lunch time. The following week, I didn't smoke until I was leaving the office at 5pm.

Knowing that I was going to have a cigarette made it easier .. otherwise, I was constantly thinking "am I seriously never going to have another smoke?!" ... and as soon as you answer "no", you rationalise having that smoke NOW.

After about a month, I went the entire day without even thinking about a smoke .. and when I realised that, I went to bed knowing I'd quit. Haven't had a smoke since.

Smoked for 17 years. Tried to quit several times with several things, only picked up more bad habits.

The problem with stopping smoking using another item in it's place is that the new item becomes your new muse and it doesn't really address leaving the old item behind it just give you something to do until you get tired of trying to ignore the old item. Then you have two fucking additions.

That's why until you're ready to quit, you won't have much success. You have to be able to deal with losing the smoking muse without picking up another problem to fill in the gap. That's why smoking gum is a joke. You're not only adding a new muse, you're not gotten rid of the main issue....... your body is addicted to nicotine, not smoking. You're still feeding it nicotine you fag!

Why do you think people can put down a smoke and have a dip instead? Nicotine is nicotine to the body. All good. Problem I encountered with dipping as a form of nicotine to quit smoking is that one dip is about half a pack of ciggs worth of Nicotine. Not only do you not get rid of your addiction to nicotine when you switch, you increase the addiction ten fold. Anyone who has ever went from one to the other and BACK to where they started knows that if you smoke, then dip then try to quit dipping and go back to smoking you have to smoke like 8 goddamn ciggs in ten minutes to feel like you got any nicotine.

So, .....fuck that idea. Some people swear by hard candy, and I know that when initially quitting smoking your mouth is used to having a smoke there and giving an action with the addiction so hard candy can help replace that. This is a reasonable and working substitute for many. Now you just gotta grit your teeth and make it through the 7 days of your body purifying itself. ANY craving after 7 days is PURELY MENTAL and not physical so eat your Werthers original and buck up, Chuck! I did it cold turkey after an oral surgery where I was made not to smoke for 4 days. I knew if I could go that long I could make it, even after 17 years of smoking. That was 2 years and 1 week ago. Both the day of the surgery and my last smoke.

This nikka knows. Just fuckin man up. Do some push ups or something. Orbits gum and cookies got me through it. I quit when I was 30 and started smoking a pack a day when I was 15. Smoking was all i knew as an adult. U just gotta do it.

Yes, I put on 30 lbs within the first 8 months, but that beats the hell outta lung cancer. I already lost the weight, it ain't that hard so it I that is an issue don't let it stop u.

You didn't read. It said stop one bad habit and start another when you REPLACE that bad habit with another habit. When you intentionally stop smoking to start dipping or chew nicotine gum, you are doing what I said. It has nothing to do with your example of simply QUITTING.

Dipped on and off forever. Sunflower seeds gets me to quit that every time easy as cake. I just enjoy the nicotine buzz I can get from it. And I only smoke cigs when I get high. So if I dont smoke weed, I dont smoke cigs.

no cigarette today. On the nicotine patch.

Welcome to fail.

I tried the patch. I tried the gum. I tried getting high for a week.

In the end, I quit by not smoking.

Yeah ... that's ok, though, 'cause I like to find someone on each forum to be oddly nice to ... it confuses my other victims.

Right? It makes for genuine comedy.

I also enjoy alternating nice with flaming asshole .. just to really confuse them. The last one that I did that to on MPC ending up having a brilliant emotional explosion which he brought to the forum and to facebook.

So. Much. Comedy.
