Final Nail in the Pontiac Casket

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors is preparing to announce that the Pontiac car brand, once marketed as GM's "Excitement division," will be killed off, according to a source familiar with the decision.

An official announcement is expected Monday. GM spokesman Jim Hopson declined to comment on Pontiac's fate, saying the automaker has no announcements to make at this time.

In its most recent "viability plan" - which will be updated to reflect this new brand cut - Pontiac was not named as one of GM's four "core brands." Those are Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac. But Pontiac was also not to be killed or sold off, as were Saturn, Saab and Hummer.

I never really liked Pontiacs that much but loved and was planning on getting a LS2 GTO eventually, some have said this will drive prices way up for 'collectors' which means it only delays it more for me so I hope they are wrong.

Unless I can find 400hp elsewhere used for <20k

I would rather personally see buick go, they only have cars for old people anyway and by the time you are that old you should be able to afford a caddy.

Other than it not being made anymore I don't see it doing much of anything :laugh:

I saw someone mention them being re badged under Chevy but I dunno it that would actually happen esp with the Camaro rolling out.

Fly to Columbus, I'll pick you up for 50 bucks and you can buy the 04 GTO 6spd that's been sitting down at Michael's Motors. Black outside, lowish miles, not an LS2 (05 was the start of LS2), but still cheap at 10k.

04 cobra. not quite under 20k, but way sicker looking, all forged, with PLENTY of room to run on the stock engine. supposedly underrated as well. 390 to the wheels stock. who knows how true though. the internet is a funny place.

maybe when they get back on there feet gm will sell holden here, they built the new gtos and g8 and were planning on bringing the el-camino like sport truck here rebadged as a pontiac
