Got an iPad that I want to use in my car. I have an old Alpine ida-x300. I know you needed this to charge and play the iPod Touch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855994074&cm_re=ipod_touch_charging_adapter-_-55-994-074-_-Product So will that also work with an iPad? If not what am I going to need to do to play and charge my iPad in my car?

Same shitty plug on every shitty apple product as far as I know.

That plug adapter may not work. I tired an off brand adapter for my 9887 w/ iPod cable but the adapter wont charge my phone. May need to buy the alpine adapter. I just can't find anywhere that anyone used it and reported that it actually works.

Unless you are planning to never take it out of the car, why does it matter if you charge it? Doesn't it have some insane battery life?

Helps on long distance trips. Or if you've been using the item all day then getting in the car.

Me if I go Miami I usually use an app called iRadioNOW because I can stream a radio station from Miami that I like. The app, consumes a lot of battery life. Leaving my house till I get to Miami I'll have like 40% on my phone. If I use pandora I'll have 85-90% left on the phone.

I believe the pin configuration changed after a certain gen iwhatever- I know my old charger from my 2nd gen ipod didn't charge my 4th gen ipod touch

Upon further inspection it appears that it won't charge with that adapter. I suppose I could use the auxiliary inputs and a cigarette lighter, but I wanted to be able to control the music from the headunit. What about those newer headunits with iPod USB inputs and not the ones that use the KCA-422? I wouldn't mind being able to play Pandora. I'm about ready for an upgrade anyways.

I can control my phone with the 9887 with mp3s with alpines cable, just won't charge. Pandora can be used too but you have to start pandora and any other music apps after an mp3 starts playing.
The one headunit alpine makes that's for mp3/iPhone iirc DOES control pandora. Just still unclear as to if the adapter that alpine makes like that scoshe one you posted works with charging it.
Also, there is a difference in the charging between the ipad2 and previous gen phones/pads/iPods. iPad2 uses a higher voltage charging. You cn use older gen chargers with it but it just charges it a little slower than using their designated plugs.

I have the iPad 1. Apparently the new Alpine iDA-X305 controls the new generation iPod through a USB so I'm wondering if that will work with the new iPad? I think I'm going to buy it at Crutchfield and try it. Then I'll return it and if it worked buy one on Ebay.

The harness on the 305 is the same as my current Alpine. All I'd have to do is slide out the old Alpine, plug in my old harness, and plug in my iPad. All it will me cost me is $7 in return shipping to test it out. I talked with a customer rep at Crutchfield and he didn't know and he said I could try it, or course I didn't tell him I would still return it if it did work.

Hey, at the same time do you think you can buy the alpine adapter for the charge fix like that scoshe one and test it out while returning it if it doesn't work? See how many other devices you can plug Ito it to see if it charge. Id like to know if it'll charge an i4.

The Scoshe is out of stock at Newegg so I'd have to get it on Ebay. It says it isn't compatible with the iPhone and newer iPod touches. The Alpine unit says it has an included USB connector for iPhone 4 and the new iPod Touches. From what I understand the new iPhone 4 chargers work with the iPad so I don't see why it wouldn't work?

Nah I was refferring to this adapter

But if you are going a different route where you aren't using alpines full speed iPod cable then you wouldn't need the adapter.
Nvm it all im gonna end up confusing the shit outta ya lol.

That adapter says it works with 4th generation Touch so I would assume it would work with the iPad? What the hell I could try that to.

Yeah. They just never say it works with anything else but even if you searh forums no one ever post what it works with. No reviews or anything and alpine doesn't give a good detail as to what it works with. They just say it works with devices post charge change. Dunno

I just ordered a whole bunch of shit from Crutchfield. I'll see what works and return it all. It will only cost me $7.

I did. I got like over $500 worth of shit. I'll try that way first since that's the cheapest route.

Awesome. If you could find someone with an iPhone 4 and test that would be awesome.

Well the x-305 works perfectly. It charges the iPad with no problem. Didn't need any additional adapters. Still haven't checked the kca-422i. Decided to just got with the 305 since it is a lot nicer then what I currently have.
