Dear Jason,

We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.

Your current $9.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $7.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

You can easily change or cancel your unlimited streaming plan, unlimited DVD plan, or both, by going to the Plan Change page in Your Account.

We realize you have many choices for home entertainment, and we thank you for your business. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to call us at 1-888-357-1516.

you kill off competition you raise prices.. they know americans are lazy as shit and use that to raise the prices of not having to leave home to get your movie on.. and know a lot of people are also lazy enough to not even mess with their account and take it in the ass from netflix

That comment you quoted was in relation TO the COMPETITION. Point invalid.

I signed up for the free trial a week ago and then I got that email. Streaming only from now on, they are about to lose a lot of customers.

I'd sign up for streaming if you could get all the main NBC, ABC, CBS shows and news on demand that's the only thing I really miss about cable that I can't download.

You can get the big shows but it's hit or miss on a lot of the others and I'd rather watch the news that read the paper.

funny how the email is worded - they try to make it sound like they are actually doing you a favour by separating the two services.

It wouldn't be so bad, if they made all of their DVDs available for streaming. Their selection blows right now.

Mine will be going from $12 to $18....I mainly have it for the Blu Rays, but I like being able to stream when I am really bored...I may keep it, hell it is just $6.
