I'm looking to buy a new bike when i get my signing bonus, well, not new, but you get the picture...
Has to be a crotch rocket, I hate the way harleys look.
I was thinking a R1, but my friend says thats gonna be way to much for me for a first bike, but i don't wanna be losing money and have to buy a 600cc, then upgrade later.
Suggestions?

what branch? and when do you go to basic ? If it is Navy I would not buy until you get to your first duty station because you will not be allowed to ride motorcycle on base until you get certificate.

Incorrect you will have to sign an admin message stating you will not ride without motorcyce safety course. If you wrecked without the course you will go to NJP and all kinds of shit military is serious about motorcylce accidents right now. I am an E-6 btw and have fun in Afghanistan.

More military personnel die on a motorcycle each year than those that are killed at war.

Yea i know about the safety course, i meant no rules as in them telling me when i can and cannot ride.
And my unit is non-deployable. No Afghanistan for me until i commission.

yes every single day I have to read a message about a motorcycle death. I have known 2 personally that died, doing what you are doing, that is spending your bonus on motorcycle.

so you are inactive reserve and getting bonus? What reserve unit is non deployable or is this what your recruiter is telling you. Ask me questions I will give you correct answers.

I've already been through BCT man lol. I'm active reserve, i got lucky and was put in a unit that is all officers.
Its a bunch of 0-4 and 0-5's running around teaching new LT's. Since they're all instructors, they can't be depoyed, which means the unit is non deployable. If i do get set i have to be cherry picked, and my battalion commander already said he wouldn't sign off on it unless i asked him to.

I'm not spending all of it on a bike, when i return form AIT i'll be sitting on 20k+ from everything that i'm getting. So i'd say i'm being mature and not dropping it all on a new busa or something.

Your from around KC, MO according to CA.com so I searched around there.
03 Kawi zzr600 $3600 http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/1145708348.html
04 Honda CBR F4i $4400 http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/1146493744.html
07 Yamah R6 $6500 http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/1144992962.html
Personally I'd lean towards the Honda, So far my family has gone through, with no major problems:
1983 V45 Sabre
1981 CB900C
1981 Cb650C
1980 CM400A
1982 GL1100A
1978 XL185S
1994 V45 Magna

First off, take the motorcycle safety class. I can guarantee you that at least once you will think "wow, that just saved my ass"
How far do you ride now? How much do you weigh? How tall are you? Are you a speed junky or looking for a comfortable ride?
Really hard to recommend a bike without knowing your size etc. For a small guy a 250 ninja is perfect. Yes, it is slow, yes it has to special features. But if you have to dump, you have a pretty darn good chance of getting away from it. An R1 is a bad idea. As stated above a 600RR is dangerous too. My buddy that I ride with has a 600RR CBR and has taken it to 155-160 (not exactly sure) and I believe it has a top end of around 165 stock.

R6 Yamaha out of the above listen imo. Has a slightly less aggressive riding stance, but still will get up and go.

Holy shit that bike looks nice. Since when did KTM make street bikes?
And I bet that is right, but I had never rode one before. Bought my CBR and rode it right out of the shop. The 10 years of dirtbike riding probally helped though.

i dont fuck with streetbikes, 200 mph on 400 lbs, im not that crazy, but yea, that ktm looks like a nasty bike. its an 1190 - 88.5 lb-ft torque and 155 hp at 10000 rpm
and the shit he was talking about was whenever a new movie came out with some streetbike action, all the dumbshits with more dollars than sence going out and buying some crazy bike because "whoever rode one in whatever movie" and ended up dead within 6 months.

I hate the way Harleys look too, have you considered a vintage "standard" position bike?
Something like a Honda CB750, or BMW R-series...
For a more sportbike-styled bike, I really like the early '90s BMW K-series...the K75s have bulletproof engines with very little vibration from the inline 3.

The military may be my meal ticket to getting a bike. I have been wanting one for a long time but my credit sucks and my Nissan Stanza not worth shit on a trade in.
How do I get in this area where you can't be deployed? I do love my country but do not want to risk my life fighting Rashadds cousins in order to get a new ride.
I really think it's the least Obama can do for me.

The 1973 Honda 5504 I used to have years ago was an excellent starter bike, also relatively cheap

Starter bike should be a Ninja 250 just like someone said earlier. I rode my buddies from Dallas back to Austin, it was amazingly slow and handled like a minivan. But for a starter go for it!

Normally, people trade them in after the first year (which is why I asked about his height and such) a v-twin would be a good starter too. SV650 Suzuki
