Welp. Here it is.

I've finally decided to change my lifestyle, I'm already over 2 weeks in, and this time I'm sticking to it. Decided to eat healthier, monitor my calories, and get in some physical activity everday.

I've been using:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

I'm running a 500 calorie deficit daily, for a goal of 2 pounds loss per week. So far I'm down ~7 pounds.

I'll poast in here occasionally to update my progress. kthnxbi.

GL bro. If you have made it 2 weeks already, you got this. Gets easier as things become more and more routine. I <3 MFP.

Sup bros.

Been hitting the Rec Center up everyday while on campus. Hopefully in addition to my calorie monitoring, after a couple weeks I will begin to notice results. Focusing mainly on cardio, as at the moment I'm trying to lose weight. I've been pretty consistent on my calorie monitoring, plan to weigh-in tomorrow.

You may want to add a day dedicated to strictly stretch. Maybe a yoga day? You can find the p90x yoga or plyo vids and they provide a nice instruction to work your core muscles a lot better (at least for me) that traditional weighted exercises. If you don't do enough stretching and core-strengthening the other exercises start to hurt after a while.

I don't recommend just jumping in on either of these videos, p90x yoga is a sob and gave me new found respect for people that can actually do yoga. Plyometrics will kick your ass the first few times. Start a small workout routine then do yoga and plyo, trust me you will hurt less if you do.

p90x yoga is the hardest exercise routine I have ever done...without a doubt. With that said, I do not know of a video-led stretch routine that's as comprehensive as the p90x one. If there was a 1/2 difficulty version, it would be much better.

I hear ya bro, Hell I still suck at the yoga portion. I actually hate that day with a passion because its 90 minutes long. I wish there was a half difficulty version as well, that shit is not for beginners in any way.

I stretch pre and post workout, right now I'm doing mainly elliptical in level 6 random/interval setting (this varies from max to lowest resistance). Then on Tuesday-Thursday, I concentrate on my core.

Always do a cooldown, then a couple walking laps around afterwards. Again, my primary goal ATM is weightloss.

bluecar

I understand your goal being weightloss. What I am saying is that you will start to get very sore if you don't make a consciencous effort to make hella time for core strengthening and stretching. The eaiest thing to hurt using the elliptical is the hop flexor. You will notice in several months when your leg bone pops in and out of place.

If you were just to add a couple stretches, I'd add the hip flexor stretch. Since I have started, the pain post run has dimished quite a bit. I admit, it is hard to stretch that muscle group.

Excellent advice. Yoga is a fantastic way to increase core strength and flexibility and those two things are helpful in all aspects of your life.

Starting with yoga is fine but perhaps it would be wise to start with an easier routine. There are lots of beginner yoga videos out there and you can work your way up in intensity.

If you injure yourself, your weight loss routine will come to a crashing halt.

Remember, fitness and health are holistic. It is one of those annoying hippy buzzwords, I know, but in this case it is true: you have to take care of the entire machine. I know that you want to focus on things that actively promote weight loss, but you also have to do things that will allow you to continue those other activities.

I cannot comment specifically because I am guessing and trying things myself. What I am saying is that I am starting to take a specific workout period dedicated to core work and stretching. It's to prevent injury. You get hurt and then you quit doing anything and get fat.

Search Drew Brees Workout. It's on menshealth or something like that.

I mostly do body-weight core work, which is lunges and many many modifications of them.

Just did the p90x stretch vid....Here is an easy test. Put yourself in push up position (plank) for 2 minutes. If this is hard, then the vid may be too hard.

I can do that part easy, stretching my hamstrings is tough.

Yup. Resistance training will have you burning calories while you work out and then also while your muscles are repairing. Several studies show greater bodyfat loss when resistance training is coupled with cardio (given same time spent exercising).

Yeah, I've noticed that my resting heart rate is lower. Also noticed that my heart rate while working out averages lower, and during my cool down it lowers back to resting more quickly.

I've definitely noticed being able to push myself harder/longer on cardio, and yeah unless it's right after my workout... stairs are quite easy (lots of stairs on campus). I notice myself getting ahead of friends that I walk with...

Good, good.

One thing I have noticed with my runs is that once you hit a certain speed, it's very difficult to get faster and the only avenue for improvement is duration.

I'll be continuing with the working out, and calorie deficit until around Thanksgiving and see where I stand. Then more than likely I'll switch my daily calories to maintain instead of deficit, and will continue the workout!

After first of the year, I may try my first bulk and hit the weights heavy. I'll definitely need some advice then.

I mean, in highschool I was sprinter and had decent quads...

My upper upper body though, I had little to no strength. I started from scratch, and that's where I noticed the bit of gains I had.
