I'm basing this strictly on what was shown in the film. He was treated like a freak for being so large. If he got that large because he was bullied because of his Oedipus complex I do not know of it in the context of this film. Had they shown him sleeping with him mom then out on his date it might be different.

FWIW, I imagined that the point of the video was simply to point out that social abnormalities are not just confined to the stereotypes that we commonly imagine. It wasn't supposed to be a pity party for jocks who didn't get what they wanted out of life.
