Which do you use? It is about time to do my 3-year grill purchase, I usually just get the cheapest $99 propane grill I can find but the more I cook on it the more I noticed the propane taste :crap:
Anyone use a charcoal grill still? I was thinking of getting one of those old school round Weber charcoal deals but I am wondering if it will end up being a PITA switching out charcoal.
I believe you need to swap it out every time you grill right?

Do you still get the same chemical taste from using those ready to light charcoals or does it not really matter? I would think the taste would be the same after you get done with the lighter fluid.

You don't have to use lighter fluid. Use one of those chimneys. You put a couple of sheets of newspaper in the bottom, light it and in about thirty minutes you dump the charcoal out.
I really doubt a gas grill for 100 bux would be worth having to be honest.

This is the one I have, I think it was $99 regular $139 or something. I usually try to wait until the end of the season clearence.
It cooks but the heat is not very even and I am just looking for a change as I have never used charcoal. I usually grill once a week to cook my meat for the week so swapping out the charcoal is not as much of an issue as it would be if I still cooked on it nightly like I did before starting this shift.

Cooking for a week, how long do you use it for? The only issue I can think of have is that if you are cooking more than one "shift" the charrcoal may not be hot enough after first batch.
Other than that, I enjoy my $79 charcoal grill more than my last propane grill.

im lookin at the same thing.
propane is nice because you just turn it on and its ready to go
charcoal you have to light & let burn down, but i think it adds more flavor

Just for <hour a week. Basically I cook about 3-4lbs of chicken breasts toss them in tupperware and eat them for dinner and on salads for the week.
I mix it up probably twice a month with some steaks or chops or some type but generally the grill is a tool for me to cook my lunch for the week during the summers.
In the winter I do the same in the oven.

Where is the poll asshole!
Propane. Big ass mother fucking meat killer. I do it like Hank Hill. If it was easier to do charcoal I would, but it isn't. Fucking waste.
And I grill every Sunday. It is part of my religion. :fyi:

Uh, there is a poll :fyi:
Same as me on the weekends only difference is you can probably do it all year long :crap:
I am also wondering how much it will cost me? Two tanks lasts me all summer for $40 I wonder if it would end up costing more than that I am guessing yes to cook for 8 months almost.

Hank Hill. Clean. Efficient. Cheap.
I fill up my little tank once a year and I grill every week.
Next?

Just to cook, my brother and me use Propane. It's just easier. But when we have people over, or we're trying out a new recipe, we use Charcoal. We need to get a smoker, though. Mmmm.
I prefer the taste of Charcoal. Especially with burgers. However, propane is a lot easier and less hassle. But the taste is far superior with Charcoal. So, you have to decide which you like.

i like the natural gas and then use a woodbox to get better flavor. Charcoal is the real deal but I am to lazy for the heat up and care of it.

No you dont... At least not with a good grill. I snuff out the coals after I remove the meat or veggies from the grill, and I re-use them the next time I grill. I have to top off with new charcoal as well, but I am still able to re-use the old coals.
And my vote is nothing but charcoal.

I don't see what's so difficult about charcoal. Sure, you have to wait an extra 30 minutes for them to heat up, but besides the wait it's easy. Plus your food doesn't come out tasting like propane.

Yup yup. I use one of those webers in fact. I love it. The way its designed it's real easy to get heated quick, and regulate the temp pretty good. I let my charcoal burn all the way down and use new stuff every time, but I prefer the taste of it over gas. Using real wood charcoal is pretty good too, but I have to douse it with a fair bit of lighter fluid, which kind of defeats the whole taste thing. :fyi:

i don't think charcoal is necessary if you get a decent propane grill. we have a pretty nice kenmore and it tastes no different than our old charcoal grill. we grill multiple times a week in the summer.

WTF, there is no taste to propane.

Charcoal FTW, but propane is easier IMO..
So how much $$$ in coal do you spend each time you fill it? $2? $5?
A 20 pound bag of regular Kingsford will run you around $4-$5, but you will only need a new one every three or four times you cook depending on the size of your fire.

It takes a bit longer to get it going once again, I put the new coals under the old coals and light them that way.
I also use a chimney type starter for the coals, I love those things.
