The 3 Main Benefits of Newsgroup Downloading vs. Torrent Downloading
1. MORE SECURE/SAFER: When downloading content from a Newsgroup provider you can setup SSL encryption so your downloads pass through to your computer encrypted. Whereas with torrents, it's typically public, meaning anyone can check to see what IPs are downloading something. It's extremely user friendly just like torrent programs like bittorent/utorrent. I've tried other newsgroup programs like Newsleecher and if you download a file and some blocks are missing, it will just fail. You'll have to open the par file with a program like quickpar to see which files are missing to complete it. Then you'll have to go back to track down those files and re-download them. Newsleecher also requires you to individually extract all your files with winrar after you download them. They won't just show up in a final viewable/normal format but instead will be just a bunch of zip files. SABnzbd does all that automatically! It auto verifies [makes sure everything is there], auto repairs [checks the par file and resorts everything to be extracted], will go back to download missing files, it auto extracts the zipped files to your complete folder...overall it's great and it's free. You download your file and go to your complete folder and there it is, ready to enjoy. You also won't have to deal with a cracked version of newsleecher or anything like that.
STEP 3: SETUP SABNZBD SO IT CAN CONNECT
Setting up SABNZBD is pretty simple. One thing you should realize is it runs on your internet browser. [When I first launched it I was confused when it launched FireFox. But that's how it runs.] After you download and install it, you can click on the SABnzbd icon on your desktop to run the program. You will then enter the setup.

4. This is the most important part. This allows the program to connect to your newsgroup service provider so you can download content. You can get all this info by logging into your newsgroup service provider account but it's not required if you signed up with Supernews, because I'll give you all the info below:

*if you're in europe, it would be news.eu.supernews.com
Port: 563
*this will give you SSL encryption for more secure encrypted downloading
Username: [email you used to signup on Supernews]
Password: [password you used to signup on Supernews]
Connections: 20
SSL: check the box
Click the TEST SERVER button to verify that the info you entered is good. If it is, click next.

5. I recommend just leaving this all blank, it's not required at all. You can open NZB files in the program without having it in there. Click next.

*The main difference is most newsgroup tracker sites require a paid subscription fee to download NZB files past a certain amount of days but the subscription fees are usually very cheap. Newzbin is around .15 or 2.30 for 12 weeks. I believe that's in British pounds, so converted to U.S. dollars, it's still less than $5 for 12 weeks. NZBmatrix like $11 for 10 years. Newzxxx which is owned by Newzbin is currently free to search and download porn NZB files. Binsearch.info lets you search for everything and is also 100% free but is a little more challenging to work with. However I'll explain how to use it for those that don't want to subscribe to anything quite yet. :eek3:

The benefits of using Binsearch is it's completely free and sometimes you can find things that aren't on Newzbin/Nzbmatrix/Newzxxx.
I recommend using the advanced search settings on the website so you can set a minimum file size to weed out bad download files that don't list a file size. You might even set a max if you don't want to download really large files.

Next you want to sort through the results. Avoid downloading anything that has red on it. If it's red, it usually means either incomplete files or it requires a password. The thing with Binsearch is it's sort of a guess. You have to use your best judgement based on which binary it's in [erotica/movies/etc.] and the file size to guesstimate if it's legit or not. Once you find one you like, check the box next to it and then click create nzb. You'll save the nzb file and then open it with your SABnzbd program to download it just like every other nzb file.
If you are going to download multiple things on a page, you can check multiple boxes to group them together and create one nzb file for all of them. Or if you want to download them individually, check a box, create/download the nzb then be sure to uncheck it before checking the next. It's very important to uncheck the box before creating the next nzb otherwise you might find yourself downloading more than one copy of the same thing.

USE COMMON SENSE:
If you aren't running an anti-virus program, you shouldn't be downloading anything. Or you should be on a computer that you don't mind reformatting/has nothing really important on it. I've personally downloaded an NZB file and there was a virus in the NZB file itself! So it's not just on extraction/download of the main file, seems most of them are in the NZB themselves. AVG was able to catch it instantly and block it. :eek3:

Thanks to Dragon from OT for writing it, been wanting to do it for a while to get my pops going on newsgroups and never had the time. Just spent about 60 minutes on the phone with him while VNC into his machine and he is downloading scat movies like a boss.
