Looking to get my g/f a new camera. Nothing fancy. A nice compact point and shoot. I'd like to keep it under $150.

Suggestions?

I've got this one's big brother with 10x zoom, and it's a really nice camera. been really happy with the brand, so I recommend this.

If you can stretch it to $200 look at the canon SD1200IS, Great camera. We have the 1100 and it is fast and takes great pics.

$169 free shipping. Looks like a great deal.

A480 on newegg for 119. Overall the camera takes some nice ass pictures. A bit odd designed case and looking at angles on the LCD isn't great, but the quality of the shots makes it one of the better sub 200 point and shoot cameras.

It's always nice to have a real viewfinder too, just in case your out in the sun and want to take a pic... My parents bought a camera that has no viewfinder and you can't see the display for the life of you.

and 169 is a hell of a deal for the sd1200

2drunk2type? ;) All the Canon powershot/digital elph cameras take really nice photos. I have a sd6000 I believe it is, a couple years old, and it takes great photos especially for the price.

Just pick my suggestion. 30 under what you were budgeting, will take amazing photos and your gf will more than likely let you give her ATM.

Here's a pretty detailed review of the two I would be choosing from in the list so far:

I've been really disapppointed by the Canon I have. 5 years and the thing craps out. Since there doesn't seem to be a digital version of the Yashica T4 (the best 35mm point and shoot ever, IMO), from here on out they're all disposable to me...

I have an A7 that still takes great shot 8 years later. My S3 IS is a nice 4 year old camera as well.

Now the longevity of camera's, I know nothing about it. We change our camera out usually every 2 to 3 years max. Just because my wife really is into photography and there are always things to upgrade to.
