Hey, for 200 bucks on Craigslist, it was a screaming deal. Only ran a couple of times, and they decided they wanted a T-Maxx instead. I could have bought a T-maxx or other off CL, but I don't trust how people maintain their mechanical shit.
Yes, the Revo 3.3 is definitely on my list of shit to get after I flog my Stampede. Oh, and you really shouldn't knock it till you drive one. I got the tuned pipe for it as well, and that thing will wheelie at a whim, goes hella fast, and the parts are cheap. Just cuz it's 2WD, don't knock it.

Dont those damn things need alot of maintenance?
bigtoyota479
06-25-2009, 07:51 PM
No, not really. My little .15 engine will take 3 gallons of Nitro before I need to tear it down and inspect it. It may not sound like a lot, but it is. The only bitch is the after-run maintenance. Take the glow plug out, spray WD-40 into the carb, and roll the motor over. Do that for 3, 5 second intervals, put the plug back in, and put it away.
For even less maintenance, get the electric version. I don't like them, though, because the batteries are expensive, and you have to either wait for them to charge, and spend lots of bucks on batteries to have spares.

Oh no if I were to get one it is gonna be a internal combustion engine. Glow plugs though, like a diesel engine?

A diesel engine only uses a glow plug to preheat the combustion chamber before a start, not to run. The nitro engines use a glow plug to start, and ALSO to run. Basically it's a filament wire that you preheat with electricity, and then the heat of combustion keeps it hot, and in turn it kind of holds the heat and ignites the mixture from stroke to stroke. They are almost identical to a 2 stroke engine, like in your weedeater.
If you want more technicalities, here is some good basic reading.

i was really being sarcastic, this guy's talking about having tons of money so i was just pointing him in the direction of one of the best. i'm sure the stampede is great, traxxas always comes through with amazing products. for your first truck the stampede would be a perfect choice.

this. but the fun of driving them is well worth it :)

Oh yeah, totally agree. The after run maint takes maybe 5 minutes to do it, once you get it down. It's really not that bad at all.

I was hoping you'd make a case for him to get the Revo instead. It's one of the best money can buy. I only got the Stampede because I'm limited on cash ATM. If I had the cash, I probably would have bought the Revo. I might even go so far as to recommend it myself, because the Stampede, being a monster truck style, has a nasty habit of wanting to roll over if you're not careful with it. I've already cart wheeled it twice, and only broken one part which was a 5 dollar fix. The Revo is closer to the ground, and isn't so easy to roll when you turn.
Or, if you still want to stay with a cheap beginners rig, get the Rustler instead. It's the stadium truck style, a little lower to the ground, but same chassis and engine as my Stampede. I will also say that HPI makes higher quality rigs, but they are more expensive as well. If you get serious about this, let me know. I will help you make an informed decision.
