a new netbook. The Asus EEEPC 1005HA, which is the 1000HE replacement. Has a bigger keyboard with bigger keys, same battery and basically the same proc, RM and internals. Not to mention it's a bit cheaper as well.

Only 300 bucks, and from Best Buy no less. Yeah, it's 50 bucks cheaper than other places, because it only has a 3 cell battery instead of a 6 cell. This 3 cell has about 4 hours of battery life on it's first charge, so that's not too bad. I'm typing on it now as I speak lol.
Man, don't let he size of these things fool you. They really are fast! I'm actually amazed. I was expecting a slug, but got a sports car instead. Keyboard is still small, but larger than most other net books. So far, I'm really happy. Just wish I had wireless at home to try it out, but I'm sure it works fine. It's also one of the cheapest netbooks to support Wireless-N. No gigabit ehernet, but no big loss there.
160 GB hard drive is plenty roomy. Haven't seen the need to upgrade the RAM to 2 GB yet, and may not. We'll see.

They are teh win, man, I'm telling you. First charge on this 3 cell batt is about 4 hours. Not bad at all. They keyboard is a little small, so go try one out before you buy one, it may not be a good fit if your fingers are big. Other than that, for surfing, posting, and fucking off, it's great!

Everything works fine on wired.......
Except for finishing up the Wii.

The Atom processor is actually a nice architecture no doubt.
Glad to hear it is working out well.

Is it the 1.66 (Atom 270 I think) I love mine, keyboard is actually a lot nicer to deal with than I was expecting. I can type about the same speed as I do with my desktop now.
I also run PS and Dreamweaver on it with no issues, granted I have 2GB and don't really do that much editing in PS but they both still fly surprisingly.

Wurd...just get a wireless card and have the computer do the routing for you (NIC in wireless out)

I'm working on it beatch. That's next on my list. However, with the wedding less than two weeks away, I highly doubt it will happen until I get back from Hawaii. Then it is a priority. Until then, woman wins.
Toasted, yeah, it's got the Atom 270 1.66 ghz. I also found out that they hyperthread these little procs, which is why it may seem so snappy. Who'd a thunk?

Don't be too sure about that. I have my way when I want it, and she doesn't always get hers either. It has more to do with work, bachelor party, more work, then wedding, then honeymoon. Then more work when I get back. I really don't think I'll have the time to do it until later. We shall see.
I was thinking about picking up a WRT54G off CL and putting DD-WRT or Tomato on it to make it better. I can has for about 20-25 bucks. That's the plan, anyways.

So, am I correct in assuming that to share an internet connection, you have to bridge the wireless and ethernet, set the connection to share, and then do an ad-hoc connection? Or can I essentiall turn this netbook into a router?
The reason I ask is that the Wii does not support ad hoc connections. However, if I can turn this thing into a wireless router, I can get the Wii going tonight. The last time I tried, it did not work, because the only thing I could find was ad-hoc. Thoughts?

No, I has wirless router.
I went under the house and down the wired infrastructure for high speed and help against drops. I use laptop to poast....that is the only purpose. Well, that and track my workout routine.
I used to have a wii and no one else had one so I got rid of it. Now I may get another so I can play with Iam and SM.

I is poor boy. Once I set it up via wireless, I can use the wired connection. I really loathe buying a wireless adapter/router just to use it once and then wire it again.

If i didn't already have my extensive wired network, it wouldn't be an issue. Before we moved in, I wired my whole house with Cat 6.

Say you have a wired router, can you not connect a wireless in the middle of the line?
Like this:
wired router --->
--------------------------
--------------------------
--------------------------
-------- X wireless router---

Oh yeah, there is no doubt that I can do it. But 1. I am poor boy. 2. Already have wired network. I could just plug the wireless router into my switch if I wanted to.

most routers now are wpa default. mine is at least 3 years old and when ever I reset it, it has wpa selected.
BTW congrats on the EEE, there mods work great for us that use the other brands. My minibook was an MSI Wind netbook, 11" screen 160gb all that jazz, bought it cuase it was 200 bucks and had larger keys than the EEE
