View Full Version : Usb Ports getting hottt.

Can they get hot and it cause them to slow down? I have my wireless adapter connected to my router and it was slow in the port that its always been in but when i switched ports its huge a difference.Can anyone shed some light on this?

Have you checked their temperature yet? If you inserted a flash drive or something with a virus they very well be infected and getting sick which can sometimes cause them to catch a fever.
If they are running anything over 102 I would get them to Geek Squad ASAP

have you pushed heavily on the usb's at all? Or could have done it? Possibly a short.

Not that i know of,but the wireless usb adapter has been in that same port for over two months.and my Pc runs almost 24/7.

Hrm.....have you opened the case? If so, could you take a few pictures and clean out any hair and dust?

A port being hot is not going to make a diffrence unless it is so hot that there is a short or something physicaly wrong with it. The metal is touching metal and im guessing its not hot enough to melt the plastic so its probally ok. As far as you thinking one port is slower then the other, this could be that the drivers or the internal hub is only running one as usb1.0 and the other as usb2.0. I would take a thumb drive and copy over a large file and see if it really takes longer on one. If you notice a huge diffrence then i'd have dell replace the mother board or the front usb card if its under warranty.

or just leave it plugged in the good port and not use that other port...
