I just want to clarify that there is a difference between being conservative and being an idiot religious person that gives us conservatives a bad name. :fyi:

which is where the far comes into play. honestly i think most the members here are quite conservative when it comes to how they choose to live their lives, but are liberal in regards to their acceptance of others lifestyles. a common denominator.

joetama
03-07-2009, 03:18 AM
Yes indeed. I think that is honestly the idea of conservative law. As long as you don't hurt someone.

Some yahoos take it too far which makes it a negative stigma to be conservative. If you say "oh yea I vote conservativly" it means you are a gun carrying bushwacker, a racist old KKK member, a religoius fanatic that votes however god tells you, or you are some business big wig trying to screw the american people.

Personally I think the stereotypes fit the democratic party more. Tree hugging liberals who want to give make us a socialism instead of a free market democracy.

But taht rant is another thread, at another time, maybe even in another place.

What was this thread about?

Florida.

I think they should nationalize it all.
Why the hell not?
Each toll can pay the state you're in... you don't need different fucking units. >_<

Or do away with tolls? On my bike I just cover my license plate up.

On my last jobsite I was taking the toll roads everyday, without a tag or stopping to pay. Fucking 200 dollar bill.

You need tolls to pay for the workers, and the maintenance every now and then. Not to mention road improvements. I don't disagree with tolls. They suck, but they're necessary.

I do understand that, but what about the non-toll roads(highways)? Shouldnt it be one way or the other.

Well typically they have the routes planned out before hand. You would think they would make the necessary arrangements so the vehicle doesn't have to stop.

That is what we pay state income taxes, sales tax and a shitload of other taxes for. In FL I know you do not have state income tax so I suppose you could justify it but places like here in MA they have had toll roads for 35 years that were put into place just to pay for certain things such as the sumner tunnel, mass pikes etc yet those have been paid of many moons ago and we still are paying on them.

To go to Boston which I do every other week sometimes I pay.

$3.25 Mass Pike
$1.25 Weston Exchange
$4.00 Ted Williams, Sumner or Tobin (I remember when the Tobin was .25)
$1.25 Weston Exchange (Going Home)
$3.25 Mass Pike (Going Home)

So $12 each trip for tolls, during the summer go there weekly shit adds up for things that have been paid for the last 20 years.

They are FAR from necissary... Tolls take the burden of paying for those items you mentioned out of every tax payers hands, and puts it into the hands of the people who primarily use that feature of the city.

Toll roads are not necissary, but they can be funded by individuals, as opposed to being funded by everyone (including people who may oppose the added freeway) .

If someone disagrees with toll roads, then dont use them... They are usually bypasses or more direct routes than the publicly funded roads anyways.

I've never researched the topic, so I have nothing to say.
But, an average trip from Miami to Orlando costs about $5-10 bucks in tolls. I don't think that's too bad for a 500 mile trip.

Like I said, I haven't researched it. So, I don't know how much money gets allocated to the roads. But, I'm sure it can't be much.
More research will be had later and I shall come back with my results.
