Big forum admins/mods usually get paid if there is a good ad revenue and something where advertisers want space. A forum making 50k+ a month in advertising is not going to give a shit about dropping 5k/mo on someone to manage it for them.

It's especially a good gig if you have a job where you can do it thus two incomes from one job.
