I have been reading alot about which brand computer is better than others so i put my personal findings together..
there is no one brand laptop that is any better overall (quality wise) than any other...groundbreaking news i know....they all have either amd or intel processors...they all have one of about 5 different hard drives...they all pretty much use the same memory.....the reason acer, emachines, and others get a bad name is they build economy machines without sufficient cooling and also usually come with slower speed cpu's and less ram....

The question is...will dell sell you a full size laptop for 299?? no....so you cant compare emachines to dell....

Its all personal preference...everyone enjoys nutthugging Dell for some reason when the truth of the matter is they probably have more problems with their machines than anyone..

i have been a network administrator for about the last 8 years and i help friends and friends of friends with their computers when i have time..

Without any doubt whatsoever...i work on 10x more hp's and dells than anything else..

I think the reason you work on more Dell's and HP's and because there are just more of those computers out there. A lot of it also has to do with the type of capacitor and components they use on their system boards. I know e-machines use absolute crap. As far as the other companies I think it depends on the batch and suppliers. This is why it's better to build your desktops and use quality components. You pay for what you get. Since you can't build laptops (easily) you are preaty much stuck with what you can get. I think the good thing with Dell (not much xp with HP) is the service when something does go wrong is ok.

I build my own computers.

As for name brand prebuilt ones I would go with Dell. I started with a Dell laptop ages ago then moved up to a Dell desktop. I started customizing the Dell then went full on parted up computer.
Overall though Dell has wonderful customer service. It may take a while to get thru to them on the phone but their service it top. Shit, i bought my tv's from dells website along with my wall mounts. They were helpful with my purchase too.
