Nicely done! I'll be building a couple of boxes for my car this coming week, and we can compare notes. Any reason for the ply over MDF?

Looks better and is lighter, also can stain it, paint it, finish it. If I was building a box for my trunk I would use mdf because of price.

Funny how some glue and sawdust can be stronger than plywood huh?

1/2 MDF inch works i built the box in my car out of 1/2 MDF inch with 1x1s in all the corners. It is a separate chamber box for 2 12s, and it dose not flex at all. I just put fiberglass resin inside and out. IMO it just as strong as a box built out of 3/4 MDF. That port is a no go it should be at least a 4 or a 6 inch port for that sub you choking that sub.

No it isn't just as good and the resin alone does absolutely nothing for strength.

Not really. Glue + sawdust = tightly bonded.. Plywood is mediocre bonded together.. and depending on how many ply it is.. can be stronger or shittier.
God, I just want to punch you right in the suckhole.
You has suck hole.

Without a doubt, colored or not.

:eyebrow: Fleece adds little to no strength either. Don't believe me, stretch out a piece of fleece and throw a couple coats of resin on it, wait for it to cure. Then take your test piece and snap it like a saltine cracker. Fleece, tshirt material, grill cloth, spandex, any of the thin molding materials are simply used to get your general shape. Then mat and or cloth is applied to the fleeced structure to give it strength.

glue + sawdust + AN ASS TON OF PRESSURE = tightly bonded. Plywood is actually bonded under the same presses most of the time. Number of plys isn't as important as the bias of said ply's, the quality of the plys, and the quality of the adhesive used. There is crappy plywood, and very good plywood. There is also crappy mdf and good mdf. :)

I would never use 1/2" of either material though for a sub enclosure.

I'm not wasting my time making any enclosure out of half inch mdf. Half inch of fiberglass maybe, but not half inch mdf. It makes good framework for stuff, but it's too thin for an enclosure unless you brace the living pee pee out of it, and then you could have just saved yourself time and effort by just using 3/4" in the first place :)

Half inch ply? Oh that's even better. The box will breathe instead of just shattering :D Half inch ply has very minimal lateral strength characteristics. It's about as dense as marshmallows, yet marshmallows would probably make a better enclosure :)

1/2" would suffice for a 6-8" low power computer subwoofer.
buuuut if you're building customs enclosures you'd know to get nicer shit than that. So 1/2" is a no no.
