Been back to my downloading self lately..

and I was wondering.. is there any way to allot one program to use xxx bandwidth, while allotting other programs to use xxx bandwidth?

For example.. I'd like uTorrent to download at an unlimited rate.. unless I'm surfing the interwebs. So when FireFox requests bandwidth, it gets 100% or however much versus having to split the bandwidth with uTorrent or whatever else.

bit torrent has a throttle on it so you can tell it to run at XXX kb per sec so it doesnt take all ur bandwidth

uTorrent has this option too.. but I don't want to limit it unless I'm surfing. I'd rather find some way to make it change in real time, automatically.

No, not at all. There really is no issue. I'm just into the fine tuning stages of my new rig and this is something I'm wondering about..

You only need max 50kb/s - 100 kb/s to surf the web with out any sort of lag, streaming videos and all that jazz. So, whatever your max download is, subtract 50-100 kb/s from that, throttle it at that while surf, and done.
