Sadly I'm going to be commuting almost 2 hours a day soon and I'm looking to lease (or MAYBE buy) a good commuter car that gets very good mileage, but isn't a boring car to drive. Suggestions?

Would it be too feggish to drive a prius? :crap: I'd like to get mid 30s on the highway at least. Was thinking of buying a used VW TDI diesel.

budget? New VW rabbits are pretty fun to drive, come with a 5-speed and better than I expected power.

91-94 Nissan SE-R would be fun as hell to drive and get around 40 mpg on the highway.

Shit I have a ton of fun in my little 92 Nissan XE (The base model :( )

30mpg on the highway isn't that lofty a goal. My 94 Mazda 626 is 40+

Indeed, I dont know what kind of mpg I was getting on pure highway, but I averaged 30 mpg with a combination of traffic and highway. With excessive highway driving I could easily average 33-35 mpg.

The VW TDI is a great commuter car. The only problem I have with it is the cost/availability of Diesel fuel. If its available everywhere that you live, it shouldn't be an issue. They are pretty fun to drive as well.

Vdubs are okay cars... Some are good, and some are shitty. Luck of the draw. The TDI motors are tanks though.

I would probably never buy a non-diesel VW. I hear the 09 Jetta Diesels are getting in the 50s by browsing through some forums. I can't imagine that kind of mileage

Waste veggie oil conversion :)

Part of me's really thinking about buying a cheap diesel and converting it over to WVO...we have a farmer's co-op here for both biodiesel and straight veggie oil, even the taxed stuff was doing better in price than regular diesel last summer.

does the vehicle need to be new or would you be willing to get a slighty older car?

Well I was looking at either buying a car no more than 10 years old or leasing a new one.

This or an Altima / Maxima. A friend just leased a new Altima and it's nice. It's stock system isn't too bad. Not good, but it has a good bass response until you turn the bass all the way up then the mids start to get distorted.

Or just get an old school Honda / Acura rice burner. Stock, they get great gas mileage. My ex had a Acrua Integra LS, and she got great gas mileage.
