View Full Version : Quick Opinions On Dell Mini 9?

So my current laptop is almost 4 years old and I'm looking for a new laptop just to take to class, take notes, not a lot of stuff other than internet browsing, a few apps and class. I haven't got a new one, because I didn't want to spend a lot of money and now the Mini 9 is on sale for $200 which is very tempting.
Should I get it? I can't find another decent netbook with a 9+ inch screen for 200 shipped. It comes with Ubuntu Linux which I currently run on a spare laptop and I love. I also like that it has a SSD. It's only 8gb but I put everything on an external so space doesn't matter. I'll probably put a spare 1gb of ram in there as it comes with 512mb. (However for linux that's enough.) Here's the link:

So yeah, good investment? I don't like Dell too much, but for 200 I'm thinking of snatching it up.
They really cost that little?
Shit, and here I've been wondering about what to do for a remote head for the stereo...

Yeah, I wouldn't consider it if it was any more than 200.

Atom processors are perfect for netbooks. Not going to be rendering high end graphics, but for surfing the net, basic word processing. Excellent deal. Some of them have a sign-up for internet access that you MUST do in order to get the low price. I looked and didn't see it on this one, so good deal.

I would upgrade to at least a webcam and 1gb of ram min. But other than that, great deal. CD/DVD rom seems like something you need but honestly USB thumb drives work better imo.

My girlfriend has one and like pl8er said, its good for simple stuff like browsing and word processing. This was my first time really using a netbook and the keyboard really takes some getting use to. I would recommend it. It really is perfect for what you plan on using it for.

I was never here.

I should invent this before someone else gets the idea. A keyboard that sits ontop of the netbook with an adjustable bottom so you can have a full sized keyboard.
Man, that is a good damn idea (everyone's complaint is the keyboard)
IBM did that almost 15 years ago :)
I don't think it was "full size", but it was a folding keyboard to fit into a small laptop...

once your start customizing it, you wont get it for 2 bills.

Not what I'm thinking. I'm actually looking at a PPA on this.

Who said I was going to customize it? I don't need anything fancy

I used one for a few days and I hated it. The screen was too small, but what really annoyed me was the keyboard. It was way too small for my large, masculine hands.

The screen is indeed small, but it won't be a primary laptop, so it's fine for me. The keyboard was my main concern, but my hands probably aren't as masculine as yours. The sale ends today I'm leaning towards yes.

could always plug a keyboard into it too. They make the roll-up keyboards.

Meh. Looks cool. But not for me. I'm an IBM fan. Expensive, but durable.
