View Full Version : California - Strike 2 for the day...
California is trying to ban the sale of black cars...
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/california-to-reduce-carbon-emissions-by-banning-black-cars/
In a move that will likely get California's consumers in a huff, impending legislation may soon restrict the paint color options for Golden State residents looking for their next new vehicle. The specific colors that are currently on the chopping block are all dark hues, with the worst offender seemingly the most innocuous color you could think of: Black. What could California possibly have against these colors, you ask? Apparently, the California Air Resources Board figures that the climate control systems of dark colored cars need to work harder than their lighter siblings – especially after sitting in the sun for a few hours. Anyone living in a hot, sunny climate will tell you that this assumption is accurate, of course. In fact, legislation already exists for buildings that has proven successful at reducing the energy consumption of skyscrapers.
So, what's the crux of the problem... can't paint suppliers just come up with new, less heat-absorbent dark paints? According to Ward's, suppliers have reportedly been testing their pigments and processes to see if it's possible to meet CARB's proposed mandate of 20% solar reflectivity by 2016 with a phase-in period starting in 2012, and things aren't looking good. Apparently, when the proper pigments and chemicals are added to black paint, the resulting color is currently being referred to as "mud-puddle brown." That doesn't sound very attractive, now does it? Windshields, backlights and sunroofs are also slated to get reflective coatings starting in 2012.
Thats right monkey, one more strike, and we will demote california to a territory...

Fact, I have been to one casino in my life, I lost $2
I was down nearly $40, came back to $38 and I walked away. Spending $2 for over an hours entertainment was my way of winning.

If there is scientific proof that this will actually reduce emissions AND they are working to get the companies on industrial row to cut back their emissions, I see nothing wrong with it.
I grew up in Cali and I remember having to roll the windows up when you drove down that industrial row.

They (or we, I guess. However, I don't consider South Florida part of "The South", since it's mostly populated by hispanics who are a lot of things, but are not red necks.) laugh at things that says "Is known to the State of California to cause cancer."
Literally, any new electronic you have says that. It's ridiculous.
And getting as hardcore as banning TVs and Dark colored cars?! Come on! That's just fucking ridiculous. Pretty sure the compressor on cars doesn't make it run harder to the point where it needs to be banned to save the environment...

Na, I grew up in Cali (seal beach and then Semi Valley) and I can say that OH >CA other than the motorcycle laws being much better (driving between cars ftw). Overpriced, rolling blackout, fart sniffing, gang overrun hippie ville if you ask me.

Totally possible! 1. don't you watch house? the guy tried to off himself in the garage and almost got it done. 2. guy who worked for me...his mom killed herself in her garage this way. 2004 Lebaron I believe.

im finding it very hard to believe that its possible honestly. just looking at a smog sheet shows that Nox, CO, and HC levels are like 3ppm on a good running car. hell my car had less than that. granted a good running car will emmit around 15% co2. i guess you could kill yourself from lack of oxygen (but oxygen is part of your exhaust gases as well)
who knows, im not willing to try regardless of proof to either side of our arguments.
edit: speaking of gangs...i just went to a mexican food place just down the way a bit, and they put up steel bars from counter to ceiling within the last two weeks (since i last went there). the fucking place isnt even ghetto, and i havnet heard of them getting robbed.
btw: can i stil get a black car in cali if i buy it without a/c? i dont even run the a/c in my explorer, even during the summer
