OP- I'm more of a canon guy but you made that camera kick it! Fantastic photo.
How hard is it to do the 30-second exposure thing? Would it be difficult to explain? I want to take a picture like that and impress my wife without her knowing (so I don't want her to teach me). She has a very nice camera as well (Canon 40D with some big ass white ultra canon lense)
On a canon... no clue. Just go out at night with a tripod. A nice lower ISO so your darks are clean, and just find what your lightmeter likes.... play with a little darker or a little lighter.
The tripod is key.

I have an 83 ford ranger that I got for free, ran like shit (83 ford ranger) friend of my dads needed a truck for "a couple weeks". Deal was I let him use the truck for 2 weeks, he fixes it and gets it running decent (guy used to be a mechanic) 2 months later the truck gets stolen from him, I report it stolen. The next morning it’s in front of my mom’s house, we are all WTF? I guess it broke down on whoever stole it and they siphoned the gas out of it, took all dudes shit and ditched it a few blocks from where it was stolen from. My brother’s friends saw it and knew whose it was so they towed it to my moms in the middle of the night. In the morning mom calls, says its there. I go to get it and i guess the guy I let borrow it lost the keys to it because the column is thrashed. Looks like he tried to start it with a pipe wrench and a sledge hammer. I guess he also decided the seat wasn’t good enough for him because it has seats from a 90 something ranger in it, 1 bolt in each seat and they didn’t even fit in the truck, sat almost facing each other. So I replaced them with some bucket seats from an Eddie Bauer bronco 2 and made a porch chair out of the others.

The second is a beat up ass GT Performer that I got for $20 at a garage sale that I rebuilt. That ones in not so great shape because the damn paint chipped so easily.
I also have a ton of other bikes (none of which are pic worthy), and we have a bunch of old school schwinn stingrays, and a couple stingray chopper bikes (not completed as of yet).

On a scale of 1 to 10. how tuff are the street tires these days?
It depends on the tires you get. I hit a lump hard the other day, on tire flatted, on tire didn;t. THe front didn't, and it took the brunt. I'll look into nice cyclocross bikes, and road bikes. I assume durability is very important.
Do you know how to tightend up/adjust/true wheels/ everything else???

Werd son. Here is the issue though like I said in the PROJECT thread. They don't make stock bikes for monkeys that are 6'5". I've been to the stores and they all say they have to custom make them which in my opinion is bullshit. I aint gonna buy shit that I can't ride for at least 5 minutes and see if it fits. Ya dig?
Street is + dirt is -. I want to get to work and back on the fast yo. Like I want to peddle faster than the cars can go, ya dig?
Pedal faster than cars. That'll never legally happen. Wanna try out, go to a bike shop and test as many as possible. Other than that, measure yourself to find your right size in CM.

Well if you're 6'5" a 63 cm like I have would likely fit you.
Fairly high end... Ti.

Slightly heavier.
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_cross_pro_IX.htm
Not cyclocross, so it likely won't fit as large of tires....

You say no budget, but what do you really consider to be an acceptable amount for a bike?
Any decent (fast) bike is going to cost you at least 500. To get a fast bike, decent components, good tires, rims, etc with a nice frame...more like 1500-2000.
And as stated, easily go over 10,000.

That's fuckin crazy yo. The gears make them fast, not the tires and seat shit. I want a street bike because they are the hawt, but need ma gears because there are lots of flat where I can haul, and lots of hills where I don't want to break my back getting up them.

Find a local bike shop that sells trek, specialized. Demo a midgrade trek (2000 series or greater) you may actually change your opinion. I at one time thought that spending large amounts of money on a bike made no sense. The first time you get on a decent bike and ride, it really does change your opinion. The bike reacts to you so well and the energy you put out directly goes to the tires. Almost like you have added a new part to yourself.
It's pretty amazing.

I put my chain on my Bike this weekend. Somehow managed to completely fuck up my chain tool doing so. It was a cheapy anyways. Fixed the handlebars, now all thats left is to pump the tires back up and give it a test run. A little bit worried about the tires actually, as I have some 700x25's on there now and those are a bit skinny for my taste. We shall see...
I'm rocking 23's.... you'll probably be fine. I take em mildly off road.

Yeah, I prefer some thicker tires, just personal preference. I actually wouldn't mind going up to a 32, but that may be pushing it on this bike, I'd have to look. I've got a fair bit of brick around here, so something a bit more rugged would make me feel a little more comfy.
I rode through the Oregon District on Friday, brick street.... I was in the road and there was a good deal of traffic behind me, I'd never rode on brick before so when I was pedaling my ass of ~21mph, head of the pack of car and switched to brick my butthole puckered some.

Fuck a kickstand, extra weight and not needed. I ride my bike at night so I got lights, although they're a legal retirement in ohio to ride in the street... which in Dayton is legally required... so yeah.
If you're riding your bike right it won't ease you into shit, it will ruin you. For tires... are you actually going to SERIOUSLY go off road? If not get some slick tires, it'll drop your rolling resistance a lot.

Oh snap.

Helmets really are a take it or leave it item IMO. They're an invention of American capitalism. "You need this as well." In Europe bicycle helmets are basically non existent and there really isn't any data that shows 100% you are better off with a helmet.
There are actually some fairly convincing arguments that helmets... for road use... leave you worse off than no helmet.
I don't particularly care either way, I'm only getting one to appease certain people in my life. If I get in a wreck and my neck gets snapped, well then I guess that's on them isn't it.

That's exactly why I said "oh snap"...

You really don't see how having something to spread the impact of a 30mph stop on your head can be beneficial?
30 mph impact would likely break my neck.

Depending on the angle. Most don't. And a majority of people who break their necks go on to lead normal, happy lives (while still being able to walk) after a year of intense pain and discomfort.

Tell that to my dad's cousin Tim. FWIW I got one for 60%. IT'll be here whenever. If I wear it or not beyond that... who knows. I might paint it white and put a huge gold star on the side.

some one stole my bike last week. it got left outside in the yard because people where using it for drunken beer runs and someone took it I just noticed yesterday.I looked and was going to go for a ride and it was not hanging up. I can go grab a giant from the guy who left it out but it needs cables and brakes.
Get you some fucking tektros then.
Returning the helmet, hits the peak of my heat and hurts, better luck next time I suppose.

13.5 miles one way. I'll only be on the street for a little while... bit that little while should be a bit of a rush.

how fucking fast do you ride?
31.7 today.
Next time I'll have slept, 35 seems like it could be fun. I only got passed twice while I was in the road which was only for a minute and a half ish...
The ride out was 14.5mi on my computer and it took roughly and hour, not a bad average speed for a former smoker that hasn't been doing this that long.
It was fun.
Once I grow some balls and just ride in the road I should be able to trim that down quite a bit.

Out of shape I must admit, I got nothing haha.
I'm thinking about moving close enough to whatever job I get to get rid of my DD car, remove the insurance, yadda.
Just start building a fun as shit car. Ride a bike erra day, everyone will think I'm a weirdo then outta no where, driftin in the parking lot.
"When did you get THAT"
...
"Five years ago."

Don't forget that it rains some times. Riding bike in rain not fun.
Been there, done that. It snows as well.
Final distance of exactly 28.75 miles for the day, with an average speed of 14.3 MPH and a total riding time of 2 hours and 43 seconds which means I was actually about six minutes faster on the way home which was more uphill.
Good shit, I passed the fuck out. I also drank 1/2 gallon of water in the process.

LOL...I only usually talk in threads that I have knowledge in or are relevant to me, so that may very well be true.
If it came off arrogant, I apologize I'm no Louisiana_CRX (I don't mean he is arrogant, I just mean I'm not rich) :P
If you work at walmart you could be:fyi:
It's some kind of cross frame, not bad for $25, it certainly fits me a WHOLE lot better. I'm not usually a fan of black bikes (because they can get so hot), but I'll probably leave it black, because the paint job is so nice.
