Got a job working for Bank of America in the mortgage department. Lots of overtime available, and it'll bring in at least $500 a week.

Hopefully not customer service or collections in the mortgage department. You will want to kill yourself within a week.

Naw, I'll be organizing files for storage. Not exactly the most stimulating job, but it'll pay rent and give me a foot in the door for a better job.

I would much rather do that then work with customers. I hear BOA is actually okay to work for as long as your not in customer service.

Yeah I've worked there in years past, and it's a good place to work. They really take care of their employees.

I worked in collections for 2.5 years. The first 9 months wasn't that bad and seemed to go by quick but then it got really monotonous and I was ready to cut my own throat.

Congrats, you just got your degree didn't you? It's relieving getting your foot in the door finally. My only suggest is do not get too comfortable and never stop trying to move up.
In a few months you'll probably be able to tell if there is the possibility of advancement or if it will be a dead end due to supervisor not wanting to loose you etc.

I finish up my degree here in about 3 weeks. I'm taking the last of my courses online now.
I'm actually going to work for bank of america through a temp agency, because thats just how they hire. Chances are, after 6 months or so, they'll hire me on as a BOA employee and I can move up from there.

Ha as a BOA customer, I've been screwed by their fees and trickery many times.
But I've been out of work for 2 months, and I've got $4 in my bank account, so shit, I'll take it.

I figure I'll be able to eek by with an apartment thats $500 a month. I don't have a car payment or student loans or anything, so I don't have much dragging me down.
And isn't that what being young is all about? Being penniless and barely scraping by? :D

Yes, I am just giving you shit. 500/wk should be good for a bachelor with no bills.
I just realized you said this was through a temp agency. Chances are their retention rates through the temp agency are low. Make sure to kiss ass as much as possible and put in more effort than is necessary for the job.
When I managed a media warehouse we used temps for finding employees as well. Actually I should say we used them for cheap employees and would cherry pick individuals from the groups from time to time.
So yes you have a shot at making permanent, but you need to make sure you stand out in case they are just cycling temp help to keep costs down.

Well, I've worked with this temp agency for a few summers in the past so I know the drill. At bank of america, if you're a hard worker and you keep your head out of your ass, chances are that 6 mos to a year after hiring, they'll hire you on permanently. I've got several friends who work in that office who have gone through that process.
The only thing that sucks, though, is that the temps are always the first to go. I've seen it happen. So yeah, for these first few months, I'll be kissing a lot of ass, and really laying down my a-game so I can get hired on permanently.

500 a week is plenty enough for a 20-23 year old to live of of. Sure its not extra ballin. But its enough dammit.
