View Full Version : How has your NFL Team Done so far in the offseason?

I am pleased with the Saints thus far. Last year we had a productive offense but a defense that obviously needed improvement.
The Saints have apparently decided not to trade Pro Bowl QB Drew Brees. (I think this is a good decision).
They will also not be replacing their top producing offensive scheme. Seems like a no brainer, but I am pleased.
They have really not lost any players to FA.
In short, they have focused mainly on improving the defense but have left the offense intact. It seems so simple, but I am worried that other teams around the NFL will pick up on this plan and copy it next year.

I'm not a chiefs fan personally, but since I live in KC i might have to start liking them this year.
Got a new GM(ABOUT TIME)
Got Matt Cassel
Got a new head coach (ex offensive coordinator for cardinals)
Got Mike Vrabel
Got a 3rd pick, seems to be like we will be using it on Aaron Curry, a linebacker from Wake Forest
I'd say we are doing allright

Yeah, I really would like to limit this discussion to professional teams.

I root for the 9ers. Who cares about their preseason. All that matters is how well they played in the 80's.

You can thank the late Bill Walsh for those championships.

Without Walsh, SF would've never have drafted those guys.

You say that like you have a clue about football. Look who you're talking to mister.
Jerry Jones always makes questionable decisions, but I really like the Kitna trade.

So I hear that the Chiefs may be interested in trading Dorsey. They are going from a 4-3 to a 3-4.
That would have to be a huge cap hit though.

rumor down my way is they are talking to ATL about Dorsey and Gonzo for a 1, 3 this year, and a 2 next year. Thats steep.
And to think, I wanted Dorsey over Ryan last year. Glad they didnt listen to me.

Yeah, I don't really blame you. DT is a more certain pick and I didn't get to see much of Ryan in college. That SOB is the real deal though. Simply amazing that he made tghe transition so well. Hell, both 1st RD QB's did well last year. I bet you don't see that out of this year's crop.

With stafford going to the lions, no way.
He is not a starting QB off the block. He needs to be behind someone that is mediocre and push him to take his job. Like Brady Quinn and the Browns.

Agreed. Stafford is mah boy and all but he needed that senior year. He's gonna get killed in Detroit. Sanchez may indeed be the real deal as well but he needs alot more maturing.

Hah, wouldnt that be funny. Denver traded their pro bowl QB for Cassel who may not even work out on a team that is not the Patriots. Oh, and they didn't even get him.:loco:

The Pats have had a pretty good offseason. Would be a lot better if they made a deal for Peppers, which doesn't look like it's gonna happen anymore.
They've got some good pics in the draft, 4 in the top 58, which I'm sure they'll use to get some defensive players.

Falcons trade for Gonzo today for a 2nd round in 2010.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Av0o7rsTWw3rpovU1G.vqHg5nYcB?slug=ap-falcons-gonzalez&prov=ap&type=lgns
The Atlanta Falcons obtained tight end Tony Gonzalez from the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday for a draft pick next year.
The Falcons will send a second-round pick in 2010 to Kansas City in exchange for Gonzalez, the only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, the Chiefs announced.
Gonzalez caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008. He owns NFL career records for tight ends with 916 receptions, 10,940 yards receiving, 76 TDs receiving and 26 100-yard receiving games.
Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt called Gonzalez “one of the finest players in Chiefs history.”
A person with knowledge of the negotiations said the Falcons have reached agreement with Gonzalez on a new contract. The person requested anonymity because the agreement has not been announced.
The 33-year-old Gonzalez asked to be traded last October. But then-general manager Carl Peterson said no team Gonzalez was willing to go to made a good enough offer.
General manager Scott Pioli said it wasn’t easy to trade the star, who played in 188 regular-season games for Kansas City.
“From an organizational as well as personal standpoint there are mixed emotions,” Pioli said. “I have the highest personal and professional respect for Tony and consider him to be a future Pro Football Hall of Famer.”
The trade addresses one of the Falcons’ top needs, freeing the organization to make defense the top priority in this weekend’s draft.
The Falcons expect to receive compensatory picks next year for losing several free agents, including cornerback Domonique Foxworth and linebackers Michael Boley and Keith Brooking, making it easier for the team to trade the second-round pick to the Chiefs.
Gonzalez will join Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White to give the Falcons another top target for 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Matt Ryan.
“Every team in this league dreams of having Tony Gonzalez run out of the tunnel for them,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said.

No, not at all. The Falcons have not done much this offseason. I am sure it will look like a great trade this year -- but I think it hurts long term.
33 is getting on up there and you know the messican is going to start showing at some point.

Modern pro football is not about long term strategy. It's about 2 year strategy.

Of course you would... He was done at the begining of this season, he was done halfway through this season, he was DEFINITLY done at the end of this season... How do you think he is going to be in 5 years...
He shoulda been shit canned IMO. He has some good throws, every once in a while, but he is out of his league IMHO. At least he doesnt whine and cry like farve I gues...

They need to revamp the system so that a team doesn't get fucked giving a $7 million per guaranteed salary for a guy who has never played a game in the NFL. The Lions organization is destined to fail; they should have drafted Curry and rode the season out with Culpepper, then look at a new quarterback next year.
