So, right now I have a Logitech Z-5300 system.
It comes stock with 5 speakers, all 8-ohms. The center channel puts out 39 Watts @ 8-ohms, and the front and rear satellites put out 35.25 watts @ 8-ohms.
I want to get a decent 2-way system. I was thinking of trying to design my own X-over as well.
This is a low budget 'This Jew Bastard is Broke, so bang for your buck!' kind of deal. I have to save up for it, as it is. Any particular items you guys suggest?
Also, I was going to put the center speaker above my monitor, then mount the rest of the speakers in each corner of my room to eventually get a processor so I can hook my TV up to it. Is there any way that I could make it so that when I switch it to TV, it changes channel of the speaker?

I actually do need a good pair of head phones. What are the cheapest ones you suggest, Tama?

Uhhh I guess cheap in the audio realm isn't something I do well. Cheap for me is getting my Moon P-3 Pre-Amp for $980 shipped.
I've probably spent more on transistors for projects than you will on your entire system.

You're killin' me, Tama.
$980?! Does it come with a place to insert your penis or a sensor that can tell when you're down and tells you how awesome you are?

None of those things were standard... But, I will tell you that it sounds really really good. :)
Just a note to the real purpose of this thread. If you are going to have 'real' speakers hooked to a computer you are going to need an amp or even better a receiver connected digitally to the computer.

It has a 6-channel amp.
Unless my computer somehow produces 356 watts out of the 3.5mm jacks..?

Wait... I'm corn-fuzzeled.
Your logitech system came with an amplifier? And you want to use that?
I'm guessing it isn't a very quality system.

It actually sounds great. Especially the sub. Hits really hard. Like, I spent $125 or something on sale like 2 years ago... and it sounds great. Except at high levels. It sounds like horse's ass. I just want to do the whole HT option... and these speaker's wires are too short, and I really don't feel like rewiring them. I might just put them in a new enclosure and wire them that way.

Just buy some wire and splice it in.
Honestly, the 'system' amp isn't going to have enough balls to drive much. And you aren't going to gain diddly by putting them in a new enclosure. You want cheap, get some lamp cord at lowes or something.

To be honest, I'm just bored and I want something new. I'm sure you can relate.

Someday I'll go to a full separate phono stage (and one that can handle low output MCs), but for now, it's all I need.
Also getting a turntable again, I'm tired of having no vinyl playback...thinking of a Technics 1200MK2 and slapping a tweaked RB250 on it. Will do for now until I can afford a Clearaudio or Teres that I've been drooling over.

hey Jim,
you wanna buy some altec Voice of the theater floorstanding pairs from me? you know like 55 years old with alnico magnets, etc.
Can't really afford it now :(
They're the ones with the metal horns, though? I'd love a pair of A7s...

I think he has an older Classe.
I'm a MOSFET fan and almost all of the SIM/Moon stuff has MOSFET in the stages somewhere. They usually use Bi-Polar in the outputs so they can get a huge current drive going on. My P-3 for example is JFET input with MOSFET outs. Matches up nicely with my V800.

My dad used to use A7 as PA speakers and had 12 of them. Sold them all in the 80's. I wish he would have kept a pair or two. :(
Used to build platforms 8 ft off the ground for the A7. I guess they would put an extension latter up against the platform and shove the speaker into the air. I'm thinking that would suck. He was the first person to do Full-Range for motorsport events and the like.

If you think that really does put out 356 watts then Bose has some speakers to sell you.

Fixed.
If this was in any way reliable, we all would be using Pyle and Pyramid amps in our cars.
