Join a gym. My fat ass needs to lose more weight. Back in February, I was 278lbs. I quit drinking soda, except on the weekends, and didn't eat past seven pm. I started walking a lot more. I watched what I ate, and how much of it I ate. I am now down to 235lbs. I know NOTHING about working out. I did lift weights in high school but that was 5 years ago.

Good luck!

You have already came a long ways, I know you can do it!

P.S. You'd look hotter if you at least tanned to ryan's complexion.

Nothing pisses me off more than someone who says "I see problems with me and I am trying to improve" only to have people come in and bash the very thing they are trying to fix. Let's keep the thread ON TOPIC.

Weight loss is most diet and includes cardio workouts to help not only speed up the reduction of weight, burning of calories, but to help tighten up the skin. If you loss a bunch of weight and do not exercise, you will get very flabby left-overs.

So let's start with the things you can most easily control, your diet. What does a normal diet for you entail?

List out meals for a few days. If you cannot think of it, start with today and go till Tuesday. This really helps to figure out what you are eating and the percentages of fats, sugars, carbs, protein, that you are taking in.

There are supplments you can take too, however do not think for a second that supplements alone are going to change you. You have to first commit to wanting to change and be willing to sacrifice some things you like/love in order to do it. I have all of these mantras to go along with weight loss and working out

You have to do what others won't in order to achieve what others don't (in my gym here at the house painted on the wall)

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. I just like that one.

Also, you mentioned walking. How much and how often? Do you have a set plan or just when you have time?

Explain why you do not eat after 7pm? is this to assist you in starving your body until the next day? I bet you would be surprised to learn that this is counter productive.

Also, what would you think the best caloric daily intake would be and times to eat?

If you loss a bunch of weight and do not exercise, you will get very flabby left-overs. This is my problem now, i lost all this weight and now fat just hangs, pretty gross, that's why i wanna work out.

To be honest, I eat a lot more when I'm on my period, especially chocolate. That's the only time I really eat chocolate. My normal day of intake...
Breakfast- nothing usually just a bottle of water.
Lunch(im usually in class for this)- usually wendys-chicken sandwich without mayo. and diet pepsi (not because i wanna lose weight, because i love the taste)
Dinner- honestly, whatever my parents fix. Sometimes I fix a ham sandwich or a salad.
I drink soda on weekends, during the week I usually drink bottles of water or crystal light.

Good luck gurl.
thanks :)

Usually not a lot, and it's usually when I have time. Before school I usually park furthest parking spot and walk that way, we have sports massage now, so were going to start running next wednesday. No i don't have a set plan, yet.

I talked to my doctor about weight loss, and he said don't eat after 7 cause usually if you do, the fats and carbs you eat just sit and you don't exercise and lose them because you go to sleep.

BTW, if you haven't figured it out Tapout, DH and most especially Junior are going to be great wealths of knowledge here. I would appreciate all the help I can get. I lost 43 lbs by myself, now I'm to the point I can't lose anymore weight no matter what I do, so I figured it'd be time to ask for help.

Heres the way I cut down big time.

I paid no attention to carbs or fat.

First, go here and get your "maintenance calories"
http://www.caloriecontrol.org/healthy-weight-tool-kit/weight-maintenance-calculator-women

Next, aim for 500-700 calories below that. Keep your diet high in protein.

For example, if your maintenance calories are 2,500, try to ingest 1800-2000 calories a day with as much protein as possible.

Yes, you do have to count calories and protein. After a month of it, it becomes second nature.

As far as exercise, a sustained brisk walk for about 45 minutes 4-5 days a week will be fine.

But thats just my opinion. You follow that, and you will lose weight.

Thanks, I will try that. I also have this medicine I take. It's called Concerta. When I take that I'm usually not hungry during the day, but I'm also like a zombie. The medicine has been helping some, but I want to have a personality while losing weight, not being a zombie.

do the Drew Carey diet, dude dropped 80lbs in 5 months, fucker looks uber skinny now

'Price is Right' set in March 2009 (left) and on Wednesday July 29, 2010 (right)
http://i.huffpost.com/gen/187656/DREW-CAREY-WEIGHT-LOSS.jpg

And here he just this past January 2010:
http://i.huffpost.com/gen/187657/DREW-CAREY-WEIGHT-LOSS.jpg

Drew Carey revealed a dramatic weight loss when he stepped out at a party in LA Wednesday night. He told People (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20406175,00.html) he lost 80 pounds by sticking to a strict no-carb diet.
"No carbs," he said. "I have cheated a couple times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker. No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starches of any kind. Egg whites in the morning or like, Greek yogurt, cut some fruit."
Carey also said he drinks nothing but water and does lots of cardio. He used to have type II diabetes but no longer.
"I'm not diabetic anymore. No medication needed," he said. Another benefit: "I like being skinny. I was sick of being fat on the camera. Really, I just got sick of it.

There is some other stuff you can take to help you cut the pounds but you need to save it for when you get below 200. May cause risks right now.

And also. The hardest part of it all is GETTING IN THE ROUTINE!

Your going to have to cook. No way around it.

I always cook a lot at one time so I can have meals to eat throughout the week.

As far as protein:
chicken
turkey
tuna
eggs
cottage cheese
whey protein
fat free yogurt
95% lean beef
any kind of fish
etc.

As far as veggies and such:
sweet potatoes
brown rice
mixed veggies
etc

That is what your diet should primarily be composed of.

I don't know how much you cook now or how good you cook, but I promise you can make it all taste good enough to enjoy!

woot....DH has supplied all required information for the time being

:hi5:

Skipping meals is BAD...do everything DH said but add in that you need to get your meals spread out (screw the time that you eat). If you miss a meal, don't double up. It comes down to this:

you are eating what your body needs to properly run and your metabolism stays running basically all the time. If you double up you start storing the food (fat). Find your calories that you need split it over 5 or 6 meals and try to space it out.

As DH said, you need to cook. WAY too much salt and nasty in fast food. Make a TON on the day you can and bring it along.

But the first and easiest step is water only. Not diet coke, not caffeine free diet coke.

It's not cheating. Just a procedure.
I wouldn't worry about no scars. Your going to end up with skin sags all over the place wether you go diet it all off or go medical.
She don't have the money bro, my bro-inlaw had it done and yes there is a difference, but insurances won't pay for it because it's considerd cosmetic surgery. He had to have the doctors tell the insurance that he needs it in order to live. Only then did they pay for it.

yes, it is hard at first. You adapt to it though. Drink a full glass of water prior to eating. Should help keep you full while you adjust to smaller portions. If you eat often though, you will not be hungry.

I've heard that somewhere, and I was wondering if it was true. and also, my teacher said to try a cleanser(i forgot what its called, but it completely cleans your body out). opinions? Should i try that? I'm going to join a gym with my next paycheck. $40 a month. just need to set a day to where i can go in. how long should i work out in the gym for?

thanks sooo much for helping guys, it means a lot. :D

That cleanser may be okay if you plan to completely change your diet afterwards. Make sure to drink plenty of water with it. It doesn't help if you go back to the same foods as before. BTW water with Epson Salt is just as effective. A little more violent, but effective.

I would wait, especially if it is a contract gym. Stay on a strict eat well and walking routine for a few weeks. If you are still interested in losing the weight then go for it. Most people lose interest after 2 weeks.

Wouldnt want you to be on the hook for ~$500 for nothing. If it is a pay by the month gym then go for it. Youve only lost $40 if you wimp out.

that doesnt mean lazily walk up the street and back.

Also if you choose to walk 2 miles do not go a quarter mile from your house then back 4 times. You will quit after a half mile. Walk 1 mile from your house then you are forced to walk back a mile.

Well, lots to sift through in this thread. Glad to see everyone is here helping out and supporting your efforts. The only thing I really have to say in this thread is, try and stay focused on one style of training/nutrition. There are a lot of different philosophies on how to lose weight. Biggest mistake people make it mixing all these philosophies together. Stick to one style and follow it through. If you really need serious help, give me a PM, I'm always willing to help out CT members.

One thing that nobody has mentioned here, is that losing weight for women is a lot different than losing weight for men. Women's bodies work differently, and have different needs than men's. Yes, some of the principals are the same, but not all. I know several trainers around here that do an amazing job when getting their male clients ready for shows, but their female clients end up failing, and failing hard, because the trainers haven't adjusted the programs to meet the female's needs. So make sure to keep that in mind as well.

BTW, I'm here Adio. I was just in Edmonton again this weekend training some of my clients. I sift through some of the posts on here on my phone when I'm up there, but I leave making bigger posts until I'm chilling at home. You won't be able to get rid of me that easily, I'll never leave you guys! Haha.

Good luck, I know my wife started out at around that 270 range and is down to about 160 now (and still going), strictly off eating better and using the treadmill. Remember that there will be times and you will plateau but keep working on it and pushing and it will work out for you.

**SRS Thread**

Weight loss is most diet and includes cardio workouts to help not only speed up the reduction of weight, burning of calories, but to help tighten up the skin. If you loss a bunch of weight and do not exercise, you will get very flabby left-overs.

So let's start with the things you can most easily control, your diet. What does a normal diet for you entail?

List out meals for a few days. If you cannot think of it, start with today and go till Tuesday. This really helps to figure out what you are eating and the percentages of fats, sugars, carbs, protein, that you are taking in.
Listen to this man and you will be alright.

Also from one fatty to another, I say worry less about big numbers in weight loss and concentrate on lifestyle changes the most. People can put in months of really hard effort doing "biggest loser" style weight loss. However, it will all come back with the quickness if you don't learn how to properly balance the lifestyle. I know I am never going to be interested in bodybuilding or fitness levels of athletes, so why start out the journey that way?

You are correct to a point. There are different types of carbs. The main two are complex(breads, cereals, starchy foods) and simple carbs(fruits, veggies, sugars- which break down into fructose, glucose, dextrose, maltodextrin, etc.)

The difference is simple carbs break down very rapidly and sit in your bloodstream. Now if you have too much sitting in your bloodstream, your body has nothing to do with it but store it as bodyfat to get it out of your bloodstream. Complex carbs take a hell of a lot longer to break down, and your body uses it as it is broken down. It never sits in the bloodstream to get stored as bodyfat.

Now a coke has A lOT of sugar(simple sugars) in it, so it sits in your bloodstream and your body can't use it all, so it stores it as fat. Fruit has fructose in it, which is a simple sugar, but you have to eat a fair bit of it to add up to have your body have to store it as fat.

Safety controversy

Main article: Aspartame controversy
The artificial sweetener aspartame has been the subject of several controversies and hoaxes since its initial approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1974. Critics allege that conflicts of interest marred the FDA's approval of aspartame, question the quality of the initial research supporting its safety,[41][42][43] and postulate that numerous health risks may be associated with aspartame.
The validity of these claims has been examined and dismissed.[44][45][46] In 1987, the U.S. Government Accountability Office concluded that the food additive approval process had been followed properly for aspartame.[41][47] Aspartame has been found to be safe for human consumption by more than ninety countries worldwide,[48][49] with FDA officials describing aspartame as "one of the most thoroughly tested and studied food additives the agency has ever approved" and its safety as "clear cut".[50] The weight of existing scientific evidence indicates that aspartame is safe at current levels of consumption as a non-nutritive sweetener.[3]

I grew up all around Lake County, IN and Cook County, IL. My dad has a house in Cedar Lake. My mom lives in Munster. I've went to school in Cal City, Hammond, Munster, Griffith, Cedar Lake and Crown Point.

It does.

Ok, without getting defensive again...

The best things to drink while on a diet are:
-Almond Milk
-100% Fruit Juice (be leery of the producers that blend their expensive juice, like pomegranate, with shitty apple juice)
-Hot Tea -- If you go to an all natural grocery store, you can find top end tea blends that are just as flavorful as soda, if not more
-Kombucha is popular right now, but I'm not a fan
-UNSweetened Tea
-And last but not least, WATER!!! I highly advise a Brita water filter you can pick up for $10 from walmart

crash diets fail because the body wants to go back to its "correct" size.

When you slowly remove weight the body begins to consider that the right size and holds it or is more likely to hold it.

actually really good. im to the point of eating 3 meals a day, even though my body says no, i make myself eat at least something. i worked the past few days, so ive been on my feet walking and using upper strength. I usually take on the bikers and the more pressure people that way i can get a workout doing deep tissue lol. idk if that helps or not, but i have this shirt, that i got 5 years ago at work, and i couldnt fit into it, i wore it to work yesterday and it fit!!! my upper arms were a little tight, but the tummy part fit fine. :) i fit into jeans that i couldnt a few months ago. Definitely seeing changes. I'm still trying to get junior my body fat thing, but no one does it here :( but im going to keep trying. I went from 235 to 225(says my doctors scale). he's even impressed at what I've been doing. I'm going to walk the whole fair tonight, and I'm going to swim in a few mins. I got some pictures I'm going to upload after work tonight, I'm not going to do it now because after I check shit, I'm going to bed for a few hours. Busy morning, and going to be busier night, but I took pictures of what I do at my job, and this morning, I had one hell of a workout. I'm really sore from it lol but it feels amazing... I still can't loose anymore weight, I'm not gaining but I'm not losing. It's pretty annoying.

Can loss of sleep affect your weight? Cause I haven't been getting sleep at all. It's work, then school, school then work. The most sleep I've gotten in two weeks is maybe 5 hours. ugh.

Then you're not doing what you were told to do in this thread, if you are eating at a calorie deficit you will lose.

It really is that simple, the hard part is sticking to it and putting the effort in.
