My Hitachi 62" HDTV LCD projection TV took a shit and I need some help. I have had to buy replacement bulbs in the past (eBay) and they worked fine. About a month ago I bought a replacement locally and after about 3 days my TV stopped turning on (power light comes on and flashes for about 3 seconds, same with the bulb fan; then both just shut off. Sometimes the light stays on, sometimes it doesn't).

I'm 99% sure it's either an incorrect/faulty bulb but a replacement from trusty eBay is ~$80 and the repair shop where I bought the bulb wants $50 just to look at the TV. I don't have spare cash for either.

Here's a link to the bulb I need:

http://cgi.ebay.com/HITACHI-UX-25951-UX25951-69374-LP600-LP-600-BULB-ONLY-/280404208966?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item414964ad46#ht_4547wt_697

Does anyone have a hookup?

for some reason i have my doubts its a bulb issue. i have no idea about tv's at all but i would think if an incorrect bulb caused your issues youd have it right off the bat. its not like the bulb changed over the 3 days time.

i think either

a) your bulb fucked up your tv because it was incorrect and a replacement bulb wont do shit because its fucked (yea i know i said its not a bulb issue but what im trying to say is a new bulb wont fix shit if this bulb damaged something)

b) its coincidence that it happened at relatively the same time, and your tv just took a shit

You could be right. I'm just not willing to hand them another $50+ if it is indeed their fault. I'm obviously not going to trash the TV so if the bulb doesn't solve the problem then I'll simply have a spare bulb after I do have it repaired.

do you have info on the bulb you NEED and the bulb THEY gave you, and if so, do you see any difference between the two? if its the wrong bulb then maybe you have some leverage to at least get it looked at for free. although lugging around a 60"+ tv doesnt sound like fun

Why is it blowing bulbs in the first place? I'm guessing there is a regulator issue in the post step up side of the power supply. Depending on the age of the tv I'm putting my money on design flaw or localized failure. Either way if its out of warranty the dumpster is you're friend.

The bulbs last on average 12 months; problem is it stays on from about 5:00am till about 2:00am the following day.

12 months seems like crappy life. Typical life with that kind of wear?

It doesn't bother me at this point because I'm blind as shit (20/250) and can't afford a replacement TV right now and can't see anything smaller when reading the screen is necessary. Eventually I'll move up to an LED TV but for now I'm stuck with this one.

Hitachi isn't DLP feg. That would be Mitsubishi. I know better than to buy something with unnecessary moving parts.

That's how it usually is in every black household.

That's actually not unheard of commercially - we have a client that always places a rush order for a new bulb every year or so because they want to watch the Super Bowl on a 161" screen and the bulbs tend to die around the start of the year :D

What sucks (for end users) is that the lamp manufacturers start the warranties on the date of purchase, not the date of installation...so if you bought a few lamps to have in stock, by the time you'd install them the warranty would have run out.

$80 isn't a bad price for one of those, dealer cost can be much higher than online.

Just remember not to break one of those things in your house.

Highly, highly toxic.

Have you asked on AVS forums? I'm someone there with experience maybe an actual tech could probably help you troubleshoot it a bit.

Just realized mine is at the end of its 5-year warranty next month :noes:
